tyre / et street size ???

Starting to make ok power in my vl now but traction is a thing of the past.
Its not so bad on the street, some what fun really but for the times when i need it to hook up id like to know what size semi slicks i can run.
At this stage the car has stock tubbs and stock length diff, im running ame 20inch rims and can only just fit 225s on them so hooking up and looking good wont happen.
What i want to know is if i go to powercruise or something and want to hook up what is my best option for good rubber In a semi slick?
I can run 15s 16s 17s 18s whatever cause ill get rims and rubber

157 rim and a 235et mate

adam79 05-04-15 21:06

Nice thank you. Whats a good grippy tyre without spending a bomb?

Jet R31 06-04-15 09:31

Retread let down to 15psi ..lol

make sure u roll rear guards...255 tyres will rub

adam79 07-04-15 04:37

Are 15x8 a factory rim or modified? If factory what model?

5LEEPR 07-04-15 14:02

15x7 are a factory rim that are reasonably easy to find.

15x8 will most likely be a custom job.

However i think the last of the monaros ran a spare that was a 15x8 (an awesome space saver if you ask me).

But if anyone could confirm.

IDAREU 07-04-15 19:21

Can u run a 235 mt et radial on a 6" wheel? Anybody done this?

Jet R31 07-04-15 21:31

It will bow..so you wont have 235mm of tread on ground..

I thought monaros ran a 15x4 hence the name space saver. I also thought they were rated at 80 kph and can be use on a track

Morgz 08-04-15 15:26

yeah I think the VZ ceptor off the utes is a 15x8, but mine were 195 each to get made, new bands, offset to suit VL. I'll be running a 235 on these, I have used a 255 - but I would of probably needed to raise the rear a bit or used a stiffer spring - they do fit however.

How fast has someone gone on a 235 ET street in a VL?

DUF588 08-04-15 16:01

Mx7 11.2 at 118mph on a 235/60/15 and a 9.0 at 155mph on a 255/60/15 on 157 rim.
I needed to shorten the diff to fit the 255 so it didn't rub

Morgz 08-04-15 18:12

Could the 235/60s go faster?

DUF588 08-04-15 18:40

All come down to the suspension man ill give it a go one day.
My 60f was 1.47 i did it in 2001

Morgz 26-06-15 16:08

how many psi did you run in the 235 to get em to work properly on the strip?

18psi mate

Morgz 27-06-15 12:28

i would also like to know this, i have a vy ss with the standard 18's and is slightly lowered. Wheel arch is just above the tyre, i purchased micky thompson 235/40r18 street comps and they are useless.

Yes and yes. However the reason why you'll see some people running space savers (though not that common now due to the cheaper prices of drag wheels) is due to them being strong enough when going in a straight line. It's when they're corning that they are under stress and likely to crack.

Morgz 18-10-15 19:27

235 ET worked 'ok', went 10.4 at 140mph with 1.8 60ft. Could only use around 5psi off the line. I think next time I would use 14psi in them instead of 18.

Is this at Calder? surprised they haven't booted you or do you already have a cage and a chute?

Nice time by the way ;) How much power did it take you to run those numbers?

Morgz 19-10-15 11:28

At Heathcote, they give my chair a wiggle, my fuel cell and my battery then gave me the all clear :D

That was 600rwhp, full weight (full exhaust, leather interior etc) as I drive it on the street. Still got more mph in it, as I didn't hit the limiter.

ido09s 19-10-15 11:33

if only Sydney was like that.

and I am guessing 600 through an auto?

I make 650hp (485rwkw) through a manual and run 138 all day, just cant get it to hook up. Its not in a VL though, its in an S14a 200SX
