HDTWGN VK Wagon Build

Hey Guys,
This is my new daily, sold my jappa wagon for this as soon as i saw it on trade me.
Found it as i was looking for vette rims for the VLT, was so tidy and cheap enough i decided to not piss the guy off and try to just buy the wheels ha.

done a few bits and pieces in the few months ive had her, was never ment to be a "build" up car but you know how it goes.
future plans...hopefully before Power Cruise is to throw a 304 and T5 manual in her, then drive the s..t out of it.
Anyway heres a few pics, ill load up some more shortly as ive just put a Group A front on her this morning.
Enjoy

19" Flares off DOSEIT, on there for now while i get narrower tyres for vette rims as they scrape too much.

Group A front bumper, grill, Group 3 scoop.
reap bumper fitted with VL HDT LE lower lip.

Get rid of the Vet rims as you will end up breaking the wheel studs(not the right fitment)As the studs bend slightly when tightened. You can pick up 15" areos quite cheap.Wagon looks clean and straight.I have to say I like it.Not many like her anymore.

Cheers Marty

I like it! Chuck an injected 304, auto and some 4.11 gears in it for a nice cheap quickish daily setup

NZER 11-08-12 18:54

Awesome wagon Kelvin. Love the P-plates. Nice touch. Looks dope on the black 19's as well as the vets.

thanks guys. shes a gem thats for sure.
lucky to have a supportive missus that has let me have 2 projects on the go!
Injected 304 and T5 Manual going in it shortly Alex. need to sort out a LSD diff still though, quite pricey.
As for the vette rims Marty, yea ive heard horror storys of them snapping studs, thats why im running the 19s for now till i get them sorted.
Have VK Calais door moulds to go on soon aswell to blend the bumpers in a bit more.

thanks man, 19s suit it in black, the HDT centre caps set em off aswell.
The plates look good, but the boys in blue didnt think the same,
$100 fine and 20 demerit points for painting them. i knew full well when i did it i was going to get fined one day. chance you take eh.:p

NZER 12-08-12 05:26

What sort of LSD diff do you want run? A Borg Warner or a VK Salisbury or a 9"?

Also do the vet rims sit snug over the centre of the hub?

NZ EVLHSV 12-08-12 06:12

A 25 spline VL BW with LSD will be fine for a stock 304

got a Salisbury diff from a VH V8 wagon, but its not LSD unfortunately.
called Steelie bout it and quoted over a grand:eek:

is there any other head and splines i could stuff in there? or even just the head?

the vette rims fit snug over centre of hub, but as Marty said they do seem to put pressure on studs, can hear them creek as you undo nuts.
As i take my son to day care every day in it, im not too keen on one letting go!
could try adaptor plates but tyre shops say nah there shouldnt be a problem etc etc

go with your gut feeling and sell the vett rims,People say they are OK but they are not,Good to see you thinking of safety for your son and everyone else on the road. The black rims don't really do it for me but they are better than the vett ones.As I said nice project you have there!

Cheers Marty

I was going to suggest building up a BW diff but if your getting rubbing with the Vets on the outside of the tyre it would only worsen as the BW is wider than the Sals.
If your staying with the 19's and wanted to go with a BW 28 spline I could give you some ideas.

Looking awesome man, just need to sneak that funny V shaped engine into it now along with that 3rd pedal :D:D:D

Besides that, the only current photo I cant see is 1 from under the bonnet :p

Thanks Dan, yea hanging out to get 304 in there as the 202 is not liking the daily grind after being a weekend cruiser for lat few years of previous owners.

Nothing too exciting under the bonnet to show off but surpose it cant hurt ha

be shame to sell them, whole reason i bought the wagon was for the rims.
ive had so many offers on them already though.
rather try to sort them so they are safe as they suit the VK really well imo.
Thanks Marty.

gasguzler 20-08-12 16:11

SIKVLT 20-08-12 16:33

thanks man, she is tidy, starting to show few signs of age.
It was factory astroid silver, someone along the line has resprayed it a light blue/grey, the bumpers ive put on and scoop are primer grey and nearly match lol. It was a doors closed paint job and a quick job, **** masking and no paint inside door jams etc.

should look sweet aye.
Just trying to talk the old boy to doing them red as he doesnt do many cars he pretty much only does white.
Typical old bugger " why do you want to do them red for, whats wrong with just white?"
because im the customer and thats what i want maybe......

NZ_GTS 21-08-12 19:37

^^gold. not too many cars with white(red)walls rolling round NZ, so it'll be nice to see something a bit different. Wagon is lookin mean by the way.

your not wrong, even white 'white' walls havnt taken off in NZ really.
I tryed to buy the set up off the old guy years ago when i had my paint shop, thought it would be a good feather in the cap to go with paint jobs etc.

Thanks for your comment too, the wagon was never ment to be anything special, just a daily girl with a bit of poke and V8 rumble. But i can see it getting out of hand....which isnt a bad thing;):D

NZER 22-08-12 03:38

Definitely Red Walls! Everyone is feeling the wagon love. Keep those pics coming.

Are you going to build so it looks HDT inside and out?I saw some vk gts seats and door cards for sale on trademe. Very similar to the VK SS trim. Don't know hard it is to strip the sedan rears to fit wagon rears or are they bigger trims?.. I still reckon you should trim the scheel seats and put them in. They are super nice!

Agree 100% those scheel seats(yours for sale) are they left and right??Or is it just the way the pics are?But do HDT it on the interior!I like something a bit different and a VK wagon looks the goods, well they did make a few!
Keep the pics comming!

Cheers Marty
ps I am suprised the VK GTS seats have not sold yet?(on trademe)

NZ-SXYHDT 23-08-12 19:15

yea ive been looking at those vk GTS seats, they on my watch list. my interior is early VL and the colour is close to the HDT cloth.
Been talking to mate bout getting the Scheels trimmed to suit the VK with the brock wedge head rests, would look sweet in the wag. ill post some pics of interior on the weekend.
Matry- the seats are left and right but you can swap the pins in the sides to colapse the backs from either side if that makes sence.
Im a little worried its going to get out of hand as a HDT rep, as its a daily itll be parked up everywhere, id hate to come out and see it gone cause someone will recognise the seats etc.
Happens alot up here.
Thanks for sharing the love with the wag guys, means alot that other people like it as much as i do.
