Rapid performance in Timaru can do custom chips to put into the ecu, once socketed. Still not the easiest method. They also do nistune chips which would be the better option since it gives real time feedback.
Im sure someone up there would also do nistune.
Also instead of modifing a factory vlt ecu you could totally get a na ecu and either custom chip it or nistune it to get the exact same results. Only downside is you won't have a knock sensor board. I talked to NZEFI awhile back about nistune and they usually disable the knock sensor with nistunes anyway since its such an old and unreliable system. The reason behind this is to buy a na ecu you will be looking at $50-$100 for a factory vlt it is a lot more expensive.
