That's an old photo, I've replaced that rear muffler section since then, no rusty exhaust tip anymore

And cheers!

Looking good man! I miss mine haha.
If you lower it some turbo hubbies would look nice in MX grey. Or some grey centre walkies maybe??

2 year thread bump..
Still lurking. Now lowered, SLs all round, on club reg. Off Ps in 3 months

been helping a mate piece his VL (now turbo) back together.
t3/t4 (i think)
mls headgasket
arp studs
turbo injectors and ecu
new cam belt and water pump

Went from head off, to running in about 4 days. Not bad for a couple of apprentices lol. Still ironing out some teething issues though

vl bug has bitten hard, watch this space

Update!
^mates car above was mint.. until she ran lean... too much boost for the turbo injectors. Damaged cyl 1 and 2..

Which brings me up to date too, upon pulling my mates motor and sending it off to finally get a forged bottom end, I decided it was time for me to get my build started too.

So I've been a little busy lately:

Spent a weekend pulling the motor out with said mate from above, and the help of my dad with the engine crane. Got it stripped down to the bare block and head
Aim for now: 300kw at the wheels with room for more in the future

Have most of my parts ordered/already here, set up as follows:
CP forged pistons 8.5:1 comp 20 thou oversize
Spool H beam rods with arp rod bolts
Cometic MLS head gasket
ARP head and main studs
Custom regrind camshaft very similar to Crow TX2 specs (from clive cams) + lifter blocks machined
Crow dual valve springs and lifters to suit
Wrinkle black rocker cover
Low mount GTX 3582r internal gate, to be put together by my tuner/turbo builder when the time comes
Custom intercooler and alloy radiator
Custom 3 inch dump pipe
Full 3 inch exhaust
Leaning towards under car surge tank with twin Bosch 044 pumps
Billet fuel rail and Bosch 1000cc injectors
Turbosmart FPR800 fuel pressure reg
Ice ignition set up with module, coil, and 9mm leads

Driveline:
2 speed glide, ~3 grand converter (to be finalised in the future), ideally B&M ratchet shifter mounted in custom drop box
9 inch diff adapted with rear discs, more details once I get the housing made

Brakes:
VT front brake upgrade and 1 inch master cylinder, rear disc conversion once i sort the diff out

Modified rocker cover to fit head studs

VT brake upgrade on a customers car at work, I bought the same kit so mine will look the same lol

I also put standard tailights after so long, much happier with it now

Block and head go to the engine shop next week hopefully!

$650 retail from planet parts (just google up the name)
My boss rang them and got a better price for the kit without pads or discs and we sourced our own
Kit comes with reco calipers, Hub adaptors, braided lines, pads and rotors. You supply your own wheel bearings

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, It looks awesome lowered, almost seems odd to see a VL at standard height nowadays lol

Thanks mate, it's slowly getting there, trying to put all the others aside and just get into this one now

thanks gents I appreciate the kind words

Quick update!

Spent some more money the other day...

Picked up my wheels! Simmons FR17s, 17x7 front and 17x8.5 rear
super stoked with them I've always wanted FRs

Cheeky test fit

Will be getting the rear ceptors modified to 8.5 inch wide, so I can run ET streets when i want to cruise around and actually get traction lol

Also dropped the old Jatco auto one saturday arvo, as well as the rest of the standard exhuast system

May as well update here, this forum is fairly quiet ill do my bit to keep it alive lol, FB is killing calaisturbo slowly

been ages but ive gotten a fair bit done

Dropped the rear end out ..

and sent the diff housing away, came back as a 9 inch lol

Gave the housing a paint

and set up the centre: 31 spline 9 inch, detroit locker, 3.00 gears, all new timken bearings

Most of the hardware (case, pinion flange etc) is just standard ford stuff that my old man, or my boss had lying around. I havent gone to the Strange catalogue and spent 10k on all the goodies lmfao.

Painted case

The lower control arms are braced, went with some heavy duty adjustable upper control arms, and some short stroke monroe shockers so the springs dont fall out when its jacked up lol.
Adjustable panhard rod is ready to go, yet to install as im currently installing the surge tank and want extra room to crawl around on the floor haha

Factory fit!

Diff Housing is shortened 20mm per side to fit the simmons nicely, just need to trim the lower control arms a little as its a snug fit. Also went with some nice moser axles to finish it off

Converted the rear brakes to disc (live axle VS commo hardware), slotted rotors and rda extreme pads (sh!t photo sorry)

Fitted the VT front brake conversion, looks neat.

Also got a reco brake booster, and a new 1inch bore master cylinder (vl turbo or v8 spec). Catch can will live where the charcoal canister currently is

I've fitted a couple of these upgrades to VLs now, and the 1inch master gives a nice pedal feel with the vt brakes (not a low pedal at all either), I dont feel its necessary to do all the extra stuffing around to fit the VS booster and VT master, when you can easily bolt on a 1inch master and away you go

Got the block and head back from the machinist.
- Bore and torque plate honed block (20 thou over)
- Block decked
- Line honed mains
- Acid wash
- Balance rotating assembly and re-sized spool rods
- Crankshaft collar fitted

- Full reco head, milled flat
- Installed crow HD valve springs to suit cam
- Multi angle valve grind
- Polished faces of lifters

Got the cam reground to crow tx2 specs and lifter blocks machined as well

Masked up and painted

New welch plugs

Assembling engine:

Checking ring gaps

Crank and girdle in, fitted ARP main studs

Nice and shiny forgies: Carillo pistons (i know theyre printed with Spool, but theyre Carillo lol) 8.5:1 comp, spool H beam rods

Crank collar fitted to run RB25 oil pump with billet gears

Head studs and MLS head gasket

Torqued head down. Camshaft degreed okay with some modifying of the standard cam gear (not pictured)

Wrinkle black rocker cover (will be running -10 breathers to catch can)

Now the exciting stuff, low mount ball bearing GTX35/82r, 0.82 rear housing, 4 inch comp cover, billet compressor wheel, custom low mount manifold to clear engine block and engine mount without use of a spacer. Will be going external gate, thats sorted when the car goes off to get final fab work done and tuned. Turbo is almost plumbed just sorting out the oil feed length

2 speed glide with steel adapter plate to use jatco bell housing. Full manual valve body, billet servo piston, billet high tuff input shaft (rated to 700hp).
Need to test fit engine and trans to take measurements for tailshaft, converter, modify speedo cable, and work out trans mounting point.

B&M pro ratchet install nearly complete, using dropbox of course. Not quite as simple as all of the install guides make it out to be lol, but getting it done nonetheless. Just need to rivet the dropbox to the floor, and sort out reverse light and neutral switch wiring

Currently doing boring stuff like mounting surge tank and intercooler, and modifying sender unit to accomodate a bigger intank fuel pump.
Fuel system will consist of:
- Walbro 255 intank pump
- Undercar surge tank with single bosch 044 (twin outlet surge tank with one outlet blocked, so i can go bigger on e85 in the future)
- Billet fuel rail with 1000cc bosch injectors

My aim is to make 300rwkw safely on unleaded, I know i could make that with less fuel system, but the head room is there to make the switch to e85 easier in the future

thats all for now, cheers
