Wagon axles same as sedan?

Already done afew searchs but no real answers.
Are wagon axles the same as sedan ones ?
I'm going to look at a VLT sedan diff and i know that the housings are different from wagons, but can i use the centre and axles from the VLT sedan diff with it's disks on the n/a wagon housing that had drums?
Confused? i am!

Or mabe if i find a VLT wagon diff at the wreckers then they would swap me for the sedan one.
Or if someone on here has a wagon one?

Thanks guys!

Why would a wagon seal be different to a sedan?

I just got my Diff built, used sedan diff with wagon suspension mounts.

From what five different diff specialists told me... wagon axels are 3mm longer than sedan. Same with wagon housing too i guess.

I got a good deal - i supplied VLT open wheeler diff (cost $300 w/disk brakes)
They supplied LSD centre and they did a full rebuild w/new bearings/seals etc. for $600.

I bought a set of VL wagon axles and a set of VL sedan axles and the wagon axles are about an inch longer both sides, ho did you fit the wagon ones into a sedan?

Thats rubbish, the drum axles use slightly narrower seals than the disc ends but they are the same seal method.

VL Wagon axles and VL Sedan axles. They are completely different length to anything else, i tried to match up vn sedan and wagons but no go. Also VN six and eights use 28 spline axles.

I have my sedan diff on my wagon now and it is only 3-4mm shorter on each side.
It is sure not 1'' shorter on each side or the wheels would be scraping on the inside.
But yes the wagon axels are longer.

I still disagree that the sedan and wagon diff axles are the same. The diff place i rang told me the wagon axles would have to be custom made as thier different to the sedan axles.

Unless you have two sedan diffs or something from a different model thats not possible. I along with others have physically measured them.

i went thru this trouble gettin an axle for my wagon. in the end, i got one, same thickness, 28 spline, but was, well, Bloody Long, by about 5 - 6" or so, the bloke i brought it from said it came out of a VL Turbo. when i couldnt find an axle, i just sent my old axle, and new axle away, and had the new one cut down and resplined... worked a charm.

Not saying you are wrong, cause i'm not 100% sure but ...
Mabe you have a VLT wagon diff like mine.
That is , a sedan diff with the wagon suspesion mounts welded on.
Mine was such a good job that it looked factory.
I'm sure that alot of diff places have found this a easy way of providing a wagon diff.
