Regarding the master/booster, I'm actually going to using the RaceBrakes Sydney VT master/booster combo. It's $690 delivered from memory, bolts straight in, and is superior to any other factory combination.
Sweet! Should be a mad brake setup then! My cars brakes are the best I've ever experienced personally in a VL. I know bigger setups than mine are better, I've only driven std crap in the past.

Going to give Dean at Peninsula Smash in Seaford a call tomorrow to get a price on painting the roof. I'm just updating for the hell of it.

Ok! Dean said roughly $350-$450, depends how much effort it takes to remove all the glue and crap from the roof. Couldn't get on to Rai; guess he's busy doing what he does best.

SO....as soon as I get a diff and some time before work one morning AND have a quick word to Rai to make sure he's fine with the roof being painted, she's getting trailered to Seaford for some internal Madiera love.

Stupid doublepost merge.

Car has been dropped off to get the cage down. Pretty much the same as ISL33P's (if anyone has been following the banter in the Roll Cage info/pics thread), with the omission if the bar beneath the parcel shelf. Instead, the rear bars will be tagged along the roof, for added rigidity.

Anyway, here's what I do best - pics.

On the trailer

Last images of the bare interior before a steel spider web is spun

My emo shed, so empty inside

Cage and interior roof will be sprayed Madiera Red, like the interior trim. Should be ready Friday 22/05. Also, my cage builder is a Sparco dealer, so should be able to get some decent prices on a pair of these with 6 point harnesses...

Enjoy, friends.

Nice work Tim, looking forward to seeing it all together!

What are you going to do about headlining?

Thanks Ben! So am I mate. I'm at the point where I dream about it being finished!

Headlining is getting painted, rather than having the actual vinyl roof lining. I wanted at least some matching colours, and since I also wanted to cage tagged (welding the bars to the areas they pass, like welding the A pillar bars to the A pillar), it was going to be a nightmare to have a roof lining.

So I thought I would just do away with it, and paint the whole damn thing including roof one colour. All sounds good in theory, we'll see when it's finished.

Sanding/grinding/oops there goes a pillar

Well, I dunno man - what's he charge for a basic external same colour spray? No boot/bay/jams? The paint is pretty good (with the exception of the LHR foor which has a chunk missing [see first pic] ), especially the rear third (resprayed about 18 months ago).

Awesome. I'll keep it in mind man. For the moment, if I did it now it'll just get ruined - lives in a smallish garage, and I have to slide past it. =/

Thanks Ben, and CossonVL - I'm really happy with the way it's turned out.

Next step will (probably) be to fix up with front and rear windows, particularly the rear. I didn't know it was still that rusty under the back window. So once that's fixed, windows will go back in, this time with a VT window seal. From there, I'll be getting the interior in and saving my pennies for the diff.

I also found someone on SAU who can manufacture the kit to fit RB26DETT intake manifolds to RB25DET heads; they're $600 for the two plates, two manifold gaskets, and all necessary (allen key) bolts.

The RB26 intake manifold is foward facing and i've heard it outperforms the majority of aftermarket items. Not suprising considering it was developed as part of the multi-million dollar GT-R project when Nissan first built the RB26.

It looks great too!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Jack.

I also want to take advantage of the six throttle set up that's part of the RB26DETT manifold, combined with the VCT of the RB25DET head (not found in RB26 heads). Really want to see how far I can push VCT before I go aftermarket cams.

Thanks Alex! Well, I'm picking the car up this Saturday. Ended up coming in at $3200, mostly because under the roof lining. From factory there are some carpet rectangles glued to the roof, and apparently it was a nightmare to remove the glue. Oh well, I'm still very happy with the results. Guess it goes to show you get what you pay for. I've really got to get my diff sorted, because at the moment it's rolling on a N/A disc diff with a smashed centre. The rear suspension is only half in at the moment (no sway or panhard), because I still have to fit the rear lower trailing arm bushes, which go in the diff housing.....argh! But yeah, diff is the next big dollar item, around $3K.

I do want to fix up the steel beneath the rear window seal before it goes back in too. Whilst my money is being put away for the diff, I'll be assembling the interior (minus seats and harnesses), and probably start looking for motor and five speed on the cheap (so I can get it rego'ed before the bigger stuff goes in).

If anyone is wondering, the reason I don't have a roof lining compared to some other people with as or more complex cages that do, is because my cage is "tagged" all over the place - the bars are heavily welded to the A pillars, and to the roof at the top of the C pillars. Sure, roof inserts have been suggested - but I just like the idea of a sprayed roof. Looks a bit meatier.

Yeah, I feel like it's something a little bit different. From memory the bars have actually gone right over both the centre and courtesy interior lights, so I'm going to have to find another way to mount at least one. Hmm...
