70hp might not be enough for tubing depending on the size of the boat. You can always fit a hydrofoil to get some extra lift but if you intend on doing quick turns then the hydrofoil can be dangerous if it "bites" flicking the boat around quite severely. You mentioned "offshore" fishing, these boats tend to be bigger with deep vee hulss, not really designed for "tubing"

This is my boat

It can still pull a tube and i have been 50km from shore on it, granted its a little tender at rest but it eats up chop (like all haines and signatures do well) its 4.7m so its small enough to handle by myself but still big enough to take mates out.

Look around mate and be specific to what you want it to do, as a general rule the deeper the vee then the softer the ride less stability, if your mainly using it for tubing then stick with something with a bigger engine so your not having to thrash it to get it up on the plane

dont really wanna be hearing that about outboards tho i spend enough money on my car, mrs and piss
really just want some cheap fun this summer, dont really give a sh1t how it looks as long as it provides enjoyment and is semi-reliable

there was a bertram 15ft on ebay that ended up going for $2750 which looked to be in pretty good nick, i was so tempted but i dont wanna jump into buying something i dont know sh1t about and i cant seem to find any decent boating forums for info gay gay gay
yo mark.. this is close enough to a bertram and will pull your skies.

when i say offshore fishing i dont mean like 30kms out lol, maybe 1k absolute max, definately wont be taking it somewhere it cant handle the chop

and i just used 70hp as a minimum for a 15footer, ive seen a couple clips on youtube and they seem to pull a single person tube ok but would probably want something maybe around 80-85hp

this was the one we were looking at
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BERTRAM-15-FO...em1c1 4a1b22d
it seemed pretty much perfect for what we wanted to do but i just dont know whats the go with outboards, are mercury good?

Mercury are one of the big players, but I think the jap motors are better. Yamaha and Honda seem to be the most reliable outboards

---------- Post added 16-08-10 at 13:55 ----------

Find the boat you like then repower with something like this

something like that blows the budget out of the water

i really just want some cheap and reliable, dont mind if its a lil rough around the edges coz il be able to tidy it up and give it a lick of paint if need be, but marine mechanics is something ive got nfi about so id rather have a motor i know is gonna be reliable

yamaha and honda u reckon is the sh1t for outboards ey, il keep that in mind when looking

what about johnson and evinrude? there seems to be a sh1t load of them popping up everywhere, are they any good outboard wise?

Evinrude is American too

It's like buying a 300C or a Camry... the Camry will go forever

Forza, like you said, transoms are the dodgy point of a boat but flooring and some import brands i would steer clear of too, to be honest id stick with a outboard 1989 and newer motors..compression tests are the big thing to check, if you see summin u like pm me the link n ill have a look n let you know what i think n if its a good buy, as moe said i sell boats now but i am qualified as a mechanic, people in wa i can do cheap cash servicing or repairs and i do hear of bargains coming up etc

Mate my boat has a 93 evinrude 60hp 2 stroke and has never missed a beat, the engine is only as good as the servicing. Most of the name brand outboards will serve you well, the biggest fault with the early 2strokes was the self oiling systems would pack up then the engine would lean out and blow. My engine has had the self oiling system disengaged and i just premix, no hassles!

Also 30km is not really all that far, 1km you will be suprised is hardly leaving 5m of water in some places. I fish out of wallaroo and port hughes a fair bit and 5km is still only 10m deep
