guess you could always just wait till the northern suburbs have a united with e85 on sale... I guess its only fuel pumps, injectors, fuel lines and a tune. what's this I hear about a plug in sensor to detect the ethanol levels and auto re adjusting the air fuel ratios without tune?????

Ye I'm in the middle of installing the ethanol sensor on my vl, as I don't really have many servos with e85 near me it's the best way about it, saves me from having to clean out the system to run 98ron and e85.
There's a company in the states that sells it all as a kit. But the whole process ain't cheap and only certain ecu's can be used from what I have been told.

re - E85 fuel

Quote:
DISADVATAGES
I'm all for biofuels but the only people this fuel thing seems to be making happy lately is the media and this sort of thing has upset a lot of people at the Kurnell petrol refinery (Caltex), well they're possibly talking about importing fuel from overseas into Australia then telling people to look for other work, when their position has been outsourced to someone in Indonesia , that is plain stupid !!!!

Yeah ,some of those people are probably upset because you don't need to cart "that" around with you anymore when you drive a V8 car, because a modern V8 engine is very good on fuel for their capacity, my VY SS Commodore uses as much fuel as a standard VL turbo but puts out twice the power.

They should be looking at developing more of the E85 blend but I am yet to see any of those bowsers around the Newcastle & Hunter region, particularly when I see a lot of the flex fuel compatible Commodores getting around, I don't think there are any "disadvantages" , only that nobody seems to care about investing more money into producing this fuel locally rather than do as I mentioned before, send the jobs overseas and send those people to Centrelink to try and find jobs that don't exist in Australia anymore !!!!

I've been doing THAT for the best part of 3 years with a few supply jobs few & far between after I keep on getting fired from positions that have anything to do with the coal mining industry around here because I'm seen as being too much of a greenie in that way (yeah, they HATE Commodores because they are a GREEN car from the VL Commodore onwards, they actually clean all THAT crap out of the air like the cars in California which suck up all the smog out of the air and blow that out as Carbon dioxide).

I hope the United Group company in Newcastle wins that high speed rail project (Western NSW high speed rail link) and wants me back there, that would be like building a big electric Commodore.

I'm sorry to go off topic there, but vehicles are going greener which means we can't keep on replying on fossil fuel powered vehicles (trains included) forever , Holden have already started importing the Chev volt and slapping Holden badges on them so GM are serious about that !!!!

I've bought some un-used / second hand forged pistons for my rebuild. They are Probe SRS and are advertised as 7.8:1 cr. It will be running CPC plenum, ID2000, LT10s, 6boost, GT3582, TX2 and E85. Will 7.8:1 be ok for the combo or should I really go for something higher like 8.5-9.0:1?

i woudn't stress about it to much..you can work out block deck height and how much you want to take
of head to get it higher if you want anyway, might get low 8's, no of the shelf forged Rb30 piston will get you 9.0.1
anyway i don't think , 8.8 max i reckon and thats taking a lot of material of block and head

exactly should start like stock. Poor starting on e85 is a poor tune, not the fuels fault... yes its different to tune but should start instantly like regular petrol.

What specific requirements do you need in your fuel system to run E85, I'm aware obviously needs to be tuned for it and big injectors as it requires lot more fuel but specific pumps, fuel lines etc?

im still running standard hard lines under the car, im running standard intake pump to surge tank in the boot with 1 044 off of that. using 3/8 gates hose for all my hose as im running pushlock speedflow fittings but that it just clamped onto the standard hard lines. still running a standard type fuel filter too, just got one with 3/8 barbs.
