hey guys did some reding in other threds and forums.

K-Frame situation.
VB - VK has a different steer rack setup to the VL - VS
as such mounting points for the rack are different.
it seems you can use any vl - vs k-frame in a vl efi conversion. using a vb-vk setup seems ok but limits you to a carby extractors setup i think.

the rack situation.
as above lets say we can only use vl vs racks.
now if using power steer the vl - vn has a splined intermediate shaft while later models use a square type. hence the only efi v8 with a compatible rck is the vn. i did see some comments indicating the change was mid vp run but i also saw commentary saying some vns had the square type.

people still seem split on the tailshaft issue...

I have:

vl na auto berlina sedan running
currently searching for donor car.

the VL and VN i thought had the same chassis so why cant you just use an entire VN tailshaft hoked upto a VL diff? can you also use the frot half of a vr vs vp vq live axle tailshaft? What about an irs tailshaft?

if your using a trimatic/th350 the vl v8 tailshaft bolts straight in, ive done it myself.

i went the easy route with the front end, vl v8 k frame, vl non power steering with pacemaker extractors

On the tailshaft question.. I am putting in a 304 + T5 into a VL. I have tailshafts from VL RB30 manual, VR 304 auto, and VN 304 T5 sitting in the shed. Am I correct in thinking I can use front of VN 304 T5 shaft and rear of VL RB30 manual shaft? If so, where are you splitting the shafts when talking about front and back halves? Cheers guys.

so i have both cars the donor and the vl.

i've been looking around at the wiring and speedo sensor these seem the hard parts.

speedo drive i saw someone say that you can use a speedo drive found in the vn dash cluster? I have a vq any more info on this and / or cheapest place to get a converted?

I saw someone in NZ got a cluster / odomoter / dial specialist to adapt their speedo drive for $nz80 this seems like a good option if anyone knows anyone in aust who can do this that'd be wicked.

wiring! everyone here says its a few relays and 2 - 5 hrs wiring. now i've been quoted 580 for a plug and play loom exchange (still a second hand loom.) I was thinking if its 2 - 5 hrs work for a backyarder i'd rather take it to an auto elec or a workshop who know what they are doing and just pay the 2 - 5 hrs labour.

anyone done this? the guy with the black vlct has a wicked tech thread but this is based on a carb v8 wiring loom not a 6cyl efi.

cheers fellas for any help

I'm looking at doing this conversion - Are there any extra steps involved/ any extra problems that I may face if using the later electronic trans (4L60E out of a VT) as opposed to the earlier 4L60? Reason I ask is because I can get a 5L and Auto out of a VT for a good price.

Cheers
Sam

Anyone got pics of how far back they cut the steel fuel lines in the engine bay? Did you go around the intermediate shaft or up the tunnel side of it?

I cut mine just before they started to bend up into the engine bay. I also used a double flaring tool to flare the ends to prevent the hoses slipping off.

From memory I went up the tunnel side of the shaft with efi hose

My box is a 4L60E and I needed the following mods for it to fit:

modified tailshaft (I tried the combos suggested here and the length was incorrect)
custom crossmember
digital to analog speedo drive converter

All the other wiring should just plug in if you are using factory loom and ECU
My engine is from a VS Maloo
