Radio Wiring Loom

Odd question, how long should the stock radio wiring loom be? I've pulled out the headunit that was in the car when I bought it and there's some pretty hack/ratchet stuff going on behind there. When searching for the original loom I found it in the space where the boot release is, and seems a lot shorter than it seems it should be (still with stock plug). Also they've wired something for the radio off the boot release button. What power/signal could that possibly provide? With how short the loom is I'm considering just cutting the old plug off and extending it.
