around 1500-2000 for me to get everything completetly done, that includes labour belts gaskets adjustable cam gear etc, but i got my head for 500 and it has over 1200 spent on it so yeah

lol i own a vl with extractors 2.5 timing 5 speed yada yada and i also own a stock vs wagon theres no way the vl could beat the vs unless i start in 2nd gear haha as for vl's beating builk 3.8L yeah this happens they also have 200 or so kilos on the vl, i mean with a mate driving the vl and me in the pulsar the vl will loose haha so i wouldnt get to carried away with how fast your na is but still go the na's good daily car if youve got it sorted out not to be a greedy petrol theif.

Hmmm^ Call me a plater.... my 5 speed vl, full exhaust, CAI, run on 98 etc. is about equal to my mates VN 5 speed, only mod being cat back 2.5 inch on the VN.
Ive got a LSD waiting to go in and am hunting for some 3.7s/3.9s diff gears, should make it a bit more springy and get a good launch with the LSD. Thats all the $$ im going to spend on it
I beat a new model 2.7L hilux of the lights the other night.
A n/a vl is never going to be quick, get over it lol. Save your coin for a turbo setup or a V8!

Yes, I know this is an old thread. And an even older post.

But I was wondering the specs of this car and if anyone knows the power ? Any info on the car really.

I just picked up my vl and at the moment it is stock standard apart from an exhaust. I was thinking about maybe getting a jpc ff plenum with xf tb & cai. As one of the mods. Is there any gains to be had ? I'm aware I wont gain much power from an n/a im just looking for a good bit of low down punch. Wondering if anyone has any comments on the jpc plenum, or if any other ff plenums are better ?

Apart from that I'd probably get the top end worked a bit, shaved head, cam etc. I know I'd want to bump the compression, but to what ratio ? What cam would suit an engine like this ? Apart from that I'd probably just get a tune and wait till im off my p's to turbo, I have a long way to go so I don't really wanna wait the whole time till I add some power. I'll be able to keep the plenum but the heads will have to be chucked for low comp? Is there a cam suited to both turbo and n/a applications?

haha Man i just realsied i commented in this thread so long ago... Gonna dig it up lol

Relax, the guy above my comment said he couldnt beat ecotecs, so i replyed with i can beat them no worry's?

Wasnt bragging i can beat vs's lol, Definantly not a feat at all! You need to calm down haha

I have since sold my old car, and have done a few car's inbetween, now have another n/a vl 5 speed while the turbo motor gets built, this one has 4.11's, and advanced timing, no exhuast nothing and its almost as quick as the other one

anyone still looking for performance, advance timing, exhuast, extractors CAI and possible cam..

Thats it, other than that wasting money and time, i know its different to go na, but single cam 3 litres just cant cut it..

Without knowing any more information, No.

Your calais is heavier. The exhaust system may be too big. They're both auto/manual? One may be in better condition overall.

with factory 3:45s i rev at 2200-2250 rpm in 5th gear (MF5 box) at 100km/h

4.11 / 3.45= 1.19. So 19% increase

2200-2250rpm + 19% = 2618-2678 rpm

My Mods

Good servicing every 5,000klms
Pacemaker Extractors
High Flow Cat
2 1/2 Redback catback zorst ( 1 box )
K&N Panel filter
She's auto but.

But other mods to do :

Manual
LSD with good ratio
Bigger injectors

But other than that its a waste of money spending a S@#T load of money on an N/A 30. When they are slow anyways, P platers just have to wait till they get thier opens to start boosting it.

TIP***Pod filters LOOSE POWER!!!!!!!! Proved my Mighty Car mods.

Honestly dont bother.

The best mods you can do to a N.A VL are:

-Manual conversion with a HD clutch
-LSD or mini spool diff
-Extractors and 2 1/4 inch exhaust
-Keep it well serviced. (Leads, plugs, clean throttle body etc)

Dont bother with anything else as itll be big expensive for minimal gain
Maybe a cam if you can do it yourself..

Everything else... save up for a turbo conversion

hahaha why would spend all that money on an NA? it will still go no where... all that money you could buy a standard turbo setup and be quicker... and it will dose
