Whats the best and inexpensive mods to do to a N/a Vl calais. its got a bit of an exhaust already, the tips close to 3 inches but its not a whole exhaust system just about the last foot or 2 of it are 2 1/2 inch. this is how i bought it. any one know what i can do to make this better

Im yet to deceide weather ill bother doing anything much to my car as yet. At the moment its a pretty sweet looking calais n/a but im not sure about modifying it... With an exhaust system, what is the difference in sound between stock and with a 2/12 inch system (bearing in mind id have it tweaked to be on the legal limit) i dont wana go do it and then find it sounds pissy... Putting extractors in there as well is pretty costly, im guessing youd all recomend doing it with extractors... any point going without em? or would that just be a total waste? Secondly, what kinda difference is a pod filter gonna make to a) sound and b) performance? thanks guys!

well Hi guys
My VL project is just begining but some of you guys are talking about running pod filters. From my experience it is better to run a cold air intake and a high flow filter in your air box as pods just sit in the engine bay and can suck alot of warm air.

To franga 66 I would suggest extractors and a full exhaust

Instead of using a cold air intake and a pod filter, move the pod filter to behind the front bumper bar, it works well.

I brought another intake pipe from the wreckers and put it through the cold air intake hole to the front bumper with a K&N pod filter.

I found it works better than the cold air intake.

Hint: When you advance the ignition timing with the motor warm and running, it will idle faster.

at the moment i got a pod filter, i was wondering wetha it will make much difference if i get a k&n filter for the standard airbox..wat would be betta. I dont really wanna do a cold air intake either. coz of the whole cutting the hole part!!Wat other mods would u recomend apart from extractors. coz im already getting them

PSICHO, I agree with you mate. THat's the power in which I am about wanting. Also just to have the car mint. I'll tell you people what I am sick of, not that there is anything wrong with Calais, but just about all Calais drivers are so pig-headed with there turbo! I am not generalizing, they give no credit to the n/a VL's. I mean seriously, a guy I know at School has a Calais Turbo, he put a reconditioned engine in and a TO3 Garret Turbo system and such, and he gives S**t to me about my car just because it isn't a Calais and Turbo! I mean if I really wanted a Calais I would have bought 1. I could have, but I have no problem with the look of the n/a Executives, SL's and Berlina's.

I might be babblin but so many Clais people I know give so much S**t and think they are God. Far-out man I am going to kill especially that guy I know with the Calais Turbo, maby not now but give me a year or so.

By the way, I am not sayin that Calais drivers are nuts or there cars arn't good lookin, because they are, but a selected few of Calais drivers think they are so mad and N/A SL's etc are insignifficant.

By the way I am not tryin to discuss anything, you don't have to respond, however I do have a question about a technical point; how many Kw's would a 2 1/2 Inch Exhaust from cat back give? 3 or 4? How many Kw's do high flow cats give? And also what size extractors are the reccomended n/a VL size? 1 1/2 or 2 Inch?

i read an article on autospeed and they did a detailed examination of the VL airbox on a vlt(which is the same as the n/a one apparently)

anyway, i did what they suggested they do, i removed the snorket from the airbox, got the dremel out and tripled the intake size of the hole that the snorkel used to fit into to, and removed the airflow meter mesh screens in front of and behind the afm wire. and it definately gave me a bit more go, as well as changing the exhaust not to a more throaty noise. not a bad little power increase for free.

that being said, i suggested this to my friend, and he said his VL started running like **** once he took the AFM screens out, but i had no such problems when i did this to my car.

Yeah my car ran fine with the mesh screens out too. But i did it to a skyline once and it f*cked the idle up.

When me and 2 of my other mates removed the airflow meter mesh screens in front of and behind the afm, our cars ran like total crap ( Eg- idled for about 10-20secs then just died). We all had to get new AFM. So why does it work for some people and others it doesnt ?

I've been running with out them for ages, no problems at all.
Maybe remove them, and reset your computer?? (disconnect the negative battery terminal and put your foot on the brake for 30 seconds, and plug it all back in)

3500 rpm.

i had a spool in mine and it was too easy to get wheelspin. just dumping it off the line would give me wheelspin.
