heater situation

hey mate don't worry about trying to hook a vacuum line onto the heater plunger valve thing just put a joiner piece between the 2 pipes cause the heater system is controlled inside under the dash through the heater coil.

just went through it on my project.

mate go to www.v6conversions.com.au . pat gardener knows and has everything for the conversion. he supplied me with the wiring harness and speedo cable for my conversion.

on my conversion i used a vn k-frame vn power steering rack (because the oil lines are in a different spot compared to the 6cyl rack) I also used vn v8 power steering oil lines with little modifications and pacemaker ph5700 extracters. here is a few pics to show the clearence. ( for anybody who wants to know)

and here is some pics of where i hid the charcoal canister.....

he is a couple of pics of the almost finished project of mine.......just incase anybody wanted to see it............

Don't have any pics, but I put an auto in mine first when I did the conversion. Use the VN shifter, VL auto surround and a VN auto P,N,R,D,3,2,1 plate thing. Remove the VL P,N,R,D,3,2,1 plate thing (sorry don’t know what to call it) as this is where the shifter comes up, then fit the VN plate thing on the other side

Hows it going, im halfway through doing my 5 litre conversion and im just wondering if it is actually worth wiring up the injection, or selling off the intake manifold, injectors etc, and buying a good carby manifold and a decent carby?

for those who have wired the 5 litre up themselves is there much to it? as far as i can see looking at both wiring diagrams there are only a couple of relays and a few power/ earth connections and it should all be good?

What do you guys recommend?

Depends on what you want out of the car, carby will make more power cheaper, but I reckon EFI is nice to live with

basically im just after a neat cruiser/ daily. Ive got the complete engine loom and ecu etc so I guess it really depends on how difficult it is to wire the ecu up, if it proves too much of a headache a carby setup might be a better answer, also it makes the car look more "standard" so to speak.

whould be fine with the vl one cos from memory its smaller so it should clear, whereas the vr one has like a relief valve on it that may clash, i may be wrong though

just bought the whole driveline, vq statesman complete, vs ss T5, 9 inch detroit locker, chipped and re-mapped computer. i already converted my old engine to manual T5, but blew the box and clutch cuz of the stoopid *ucking mini spool. so i decided to do the whole lot in one go. im writing everything down as its done and posting photos up, prices, in and outs, all ya need to know. but bear in mind im starting with a factory 5 litre calais, so certain things will NOT be relevant to guys who have a 3 litre. ive put aside 3k for parts, auto elec, and mechanic, but i am putting everything in myself. just having everything wired and hooked up after the transplant. will post all details in next 2 to 4 weeks. cheers.

VS 304, Turbo 700(electronic)

Just put a VS 304, electronic turbo 700 in my VL calais. having a few issues.
Just test drove the car again but still does not have 1st, Has 2nd when manually locked back but no kick back at all. It is going into 4th at speed but only under no acceleration, as soon as I accelerate it's dropping back to 3rd.
Any suggestions?
The power/economy switch and diagnostic link have been connected now but still no different.

got my vl 5.0ltr going...

using the engine n manual from my VP calais...

just wondering... why is my clutch so light? its adjusted n everything...
my brother reckons its because the cable has less tension where as it was tighter in the VP because it was bent around sh!t...

its too light for my liking..... and my clutch is heavy duty.

Just wondering if anyone has used the complete body loom from the donor car into their vl?

I was going over my original loom and its very ratty and I was thinking it might be easier to just use the whole body loom from the VN and put it in into the vl, that way all the ecu and the engine etc will be all wired up easily.

From what I can see the only issues/ things that would need attention would be the heater controls, headlights, wiper motor and the ignition? surely these could be easily connected to the factory switches?

Also by using the VN body loom you could insert the VN dash cluster into the vl surround like the picture shown already in this thread, im thinking the the rest of the loom would very easily connect up to the existing lights etc, and the fuse box would fit neatly under the dash like they do in the VK's etc and the vl even has room?

Would be good to get feedback from this approach. Could also be possible to use the whole VN dash, surely the front window area didnt change too much from the VLs?

A couple of questions:

1. Can a VP donor car be used? The first post only mentions up to VN.

2.With the new ECU, what exactly needs to be done? Do you need all the associated wiring that runs to it ect? Or is it just a plug in and go? May be a dumb question but i seriously have no idea haha.

3. Is the 1 inch master cylinder standard on the 5L commodores? So i can just grab the one off a donor car.

Im also curious about these 2 parts. Can anyone confirm or deny what happens with the VN V8 accelerator cable? Does it need to be modified?

Also has anyone had any problems using the VL V6 body loom?
