Kart Racing

Does/Has anyone here race or raced karts in club events etc?

How much did it cost to run for a season?
What category did you race in?
How tough is the competition in the category you race in?

not cheap man,, my cousin races.. you have to start on your L's for 3 races then have to pass a scrutineer test to get off them.. kart would cost anywere from 3-8k without motor and motor can be 2-5k.. depends what motor you wanna run.. i would personally go the leopard as they *** fly,, but if you wanna do it just for fun then get a S motor.. if your just starting then the competition is pretty full on,, i watched aover 40's race with a new guy in it and he got lapped twice,, even the rookies (ages 5-10 i think) will eat you

That's pretty full on getting lapped twice every race lol. How long are the races usually? Not the endurance ones just regular.

Be prepared to spend 12-15k for a season at club level.

I spent that much getting started and racing clubman light for a season running on used tyres which i got for free. If i used new tyres, would have had to spend another 2k.

My bro and cuz still race...

If u want anything just give my bro a call tell him that you know me etc...

http://www.kartingcentre.com.au/

Its far from a cheap sport though especially if u want to be competitive and race at the big meetings...

I do Enduro Karting... it still not cheap but its probably the cheapest form of Karting. At Picton near Sydney they have 4-stroke karts with Subaru motors so bugger all maintenance though they aint super fast.. still good fun.

Raced for about 10 years, it's not cheap but its a lot cheaper than a car and when you weigh up the amount of fun you can get out of one in a season it's a pretty good deal compared to a car that sits in the shed.

You can travel and race all over the place, the maintenance is easy, there's a good social side to it etc

I raced clubman heavy last year. cost about $4k including trailer and was finishing 6-8 in a 17-19 kart field. not bad for a 3+ year old engine and standard carby. that was including entry fuel and tyres for 5 local meets.

I have missed out on the 1st 3 rounds this year because I have been busy, so the plan is to do a few rounds and then refresh the engine for a full year next year.

I am quite a competitive person but understand budget is the limiting factor, along with lack of practice. Getting a kart setup right for your style of driving and body/weight is the first thing and then you can go from there, otherwise you are fighting against it from the start....not fun, trust me I know LOL

Ive just started back club racing this season. Great sport to be involved in but the dollars can really escape your wallet depending where and what you want to race.

Setting up is at least a 10k outlay and running costs vary a fair bit, my mate has spent double that setting up this year and he has never raced before so he has bought the best of the best and is no where near the limits of his equipment!

Im actually suprised to see there is a few on here dabbling in the sport!

Yeah that is correct but you still have to be a club member to use facilities and circuits so its still another 150 or so on top of that. Unless you know someone who has access to a circuit through there membership then the 60 is useless without it!

here in nsw some of the clubs have got together so you can use your own club licence at the other circuits, just having to pay a day pass, no licence. A nice way to keep the sport affordable.

Does anyone have any info on endurance events in vic? Is there a site with all info?

Only thing i can find is the prokart series who's website doesn't really have much info at all.

Is there a vic endurance series? What sort of kart/engines do they run? Is it possible to spilt the cost of competing with your partner/co driver?

Guys Karting is the best fun you can have with your clothes on. but hang on its expensive . i have 2 karts which i have not used and just sitting there they cost you money cause things dry up from lack of use. i have a complete package from trailer to shoes Endros are the chaepest by far compared to the 2 strokes and if you are not in the know it can be really dear

So, the Kembla Grange 2012 season is going to kick off this weekend. It starts at 2pm and go on through the night, defnintely an experience driving at night!!! I have upgraded from a late 90's chassis to a 2006 Tony Kart......just waiting on fresh number decals and new engine mounts to race on Saturday....let's hope my times get lower but qualifying is not where I am at, it's when the flag drops then I seem to get more of a boogey on lol

This means my old chassis is up for sale, complete rolling. All it needs is an engine and away you go. Was running just above mid pack in a 18-20 kart field

mate i just done my first season. let me tell you that i used to race motorcross and kart racing is alot cheaper if u wanna do it on the cheap. i bought my kart for 3500 with a rebuilt clubby on it. kart absolutely flys and is fairly competitive. the whole year i would of spend maybe 4000 on tires fuel and general kart maintenance as well as entrant fees. its not that bad and a **** load of fun. highly recomended!!?
