i wouldnt suggest retaining drums on the rear and vt on the front. do as ollie said and at least use a 25spline disk rear end , ps i have one for sale

also , injectors are different , the pintle is slightly larger , im not sure about the resistance between the two and they also have a slightly better atomising spray patter.

dont use n/a s hit with a turbo setup , though the plenum is fine.

For just a n/a manual conversion it should only cost up to $1200 at Max.

But for a vlt manual conversion your looking around the $2000 mark.

It all depends on who is doin the labour, you or a workshop. And you can always find cheap stuff around every now and agian.

There is a thread somewhere about this, so do a seach and see what you come up with.

LPG N/A VL to VLT?

Hi,

My VL Commodore is running on LPG only at the moment. I am saving slowly to start modifying my VL and i was considering converting it to a VLT... Will this still be possible with the LPG system installed? I know ANYTHING is possible given enough time and money, but can anyone outline parts i would need?

Also, while i am here... I've been told a good option for a tranny would be a strengthened trimatic with an RB30 adapter kit fitted to it. Does that sound reasonable? What else would i need to change? (Tailshaft, diff, etc?). I am trying very hard to learn about all these things, but its sometimes hard to find people who will explain the same old stuff again , so i apologise and thank you in advance. I want to start working my VL a little, but i want to do it properly, and i thought i could do it in stages... So, eg, 1. transmission/driveline, 2. brakes/suspension, 3. engine/exhaust. Would i be able to talk to someone who is knowledgable on these sorts of things who wouldnt mind spending some time discussing some different setups with me and maybe teaching me a thing or two along the way?

Thanks again,
JaxonD24.

you'll have to us what LPG system your running .. mixer/carby brand and model at the very least .. some are capable of running boost with very little modification (OHG, particularly, and most IMPCO ones) .. Gasresearch stuff also runs boost nicely in blowthru I believe. I think all you need for OHG/IMPCO systems is a balance pipe so it can read the boost level and add extra fuel as required .. LPG runs GREAT under boost .. Give GRA a call, theyr always very helpful ..

Thanks LD, i appreciate the comments.

Can anybody else offer some help? I dont know enough to be able to plan a modification path. I dont want to spend money on a tranny to find out i cant use it later, or get a custom tailshaft made and find out it isnt what i needed. All i need is someone who is willing to answer a few emails every now and again to guide me .

Thanks.

Hey guys
The one thing that has changed my mind everytime I thought about converting my VL to a turbo is the insurance costs. Can any of you guys who have done the conversion give us an idea of what costs we are headed for if anybody decides to do the conversion.

Need more info man.

1) Your age
2) Your driving Record (number of fines?)
3) Insurance Rating (rating 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?)
4) Type insurance after (full comp, 3rd, 3rd fire theft)

As example, I'm converting my car very soon.

It now costs me $288 for third party fire and theft through RACQ for a N/A S2Calais.

It will now cost me $640 a year through Just Car Insurance for a Turbo S2 Calais. for third party fire theft
Full Comp will cost me $1,440 per year

I'm 20 years of age, Male, No driving infringements , and have insurance for 3 years with no claims (my fault)

That should help you out.

Some things that people have overlooked on doing the turbo conversion is the wiring loom between the series one vl and series two are different. I tried to plug in a series 1 main wiring harness into a vlt engine wiring loom.

I found out that the computer was getting no power. I not sure where the difference is, but i know the series 2 one works fine.

Maybe just some thought b4 you go and do the conversin too.

Okay, i understand how to convert an n/a to turbo with a series iII engine, but what about a series I engine? i know that u have to drill the holes in the block where the oil and water connection would be... but are there any other places thatyou can get oil and water from and return without risking the life of the turbo?

punching a hole in the sump for oil return is fine, but where can I get oil from, water from and water return?

thanx
