I gave it some to test it out, see how it went but no redline burnouts or full on thrashing is what i mean.

MY motor is a stock N/A comp engine with vlt injectors,N/A pistons etc etc. internally untouched. stock N/A intake.

the setup you describe is similar to mine and mine made 251.9 rwhp on 12.5 psi.

can you run a cooler.........................YES
can you use a BOV.............................YES
max boost on a N/A comp motor.........don't know........ depends on supporting components....with my setup i am running 12.5 psi.
If you want MAX BOOST get a gen VLT and put Forgies in it!

the standard na bottom end can handel 10psi max. any more and you will have holes.
running 10 psi with na pistons will make around the same power as running 12 psi with vl turbo pistons, bacause of the higher compresion

the bigger the cooler the better. becasue its the na bottem end the comprestion is higher wich will make it want to ping. a nice big cooler will prevent this.
and a bov is always welcome. if theres boost than you want a bov.

dont use a decompresion plate. for some weired reson they make them ping very badly.

If you want more boost and more mods, get yourself some aftermarket management and a really good tuner. Thats key.

Nothing. Keep the high compression, or get the pistons changed over.

hay watchdog.. firstly excellent info.. Bextor 84 also

with this setup. bolt onto na internals..
few questions..

What rpm did you rev too when going hard?
when does it come on boost (rpm)?
do you reckon if i did this only ran bout 7 psi i could drive it/rev a bit harder?
do you drive it everyday?
does it get hot at all??

Thankyou

Well, I'll answer these from my point of view aswell. I revved until the power was gone, approx 5,300,5,400 it was pointless in my holding on any further. I'm pretty sure it was just the t03 not being able to churn anymore out beyond that, or because my timing was retarded.

It came on boost at around 2 grand Maybe less, And I had full boost not long after.

If you ran it on 7psi or 12 psi, in my opinion if it was tuned fine it wouldn't make a difference how you drove it.

I drove mine everyday, and seeing as it was a work car I spent a lot of time fanging it back as I was late to work after lunch etc.

I didn't notice that mine got too hot- Obviously in the engine bay it did, but my water temp read the same as what it was beforehand. It should go up a bit, but if your cooling systems up to scratch with no leaks it should be sweet.

Is it possible to turbo an N/A 86 block? I hear you cant because of the oil feeds or something? Please tell me this isnt so

Unless you want to drill and tap your own feed/ return lines. No.

surely theres somewhere else you can get oil from tho

like the oil switch or something, thats where most people take a supply from when turbo'ing something that never came with a turbo to begin with

In about to get underway with a conversion for a ser1 non turbo 86 man vl. What I wanna know is ive seen around the forums that a non turbo manual is much weaker then a turbo. By this is it meant the whole transmission is weaker or just the gearbox?

What would I need to get changed on my car regarding my transmission, gearbox to make it tuffer after a turbo conversion?

Well the non turbo manual gearbox will hold up pretty well - so long as you treat it with a bit of respect. If you really wanted to do everything properly you'd track down a factory turbo/v8 28 spline rear and hook that into the equation.

And upgrade your front brakes aswell.. But the manual will last as long as you treat it nicely and don't go snapping through gears.
