Hey fellas did a tiny bit of research into car alarms today, had my car nocked off about a year ago and found it 4houses down "(just factory immobiliser)" which thank god wasnt to bad, they only stole a few things in my car and my monstA tacho then i got an alarm Lol, stupid i know.. Anyway i was looking 1stly into options in car alarms and with my old one it was a " vision" alarm i know not a very good name but for the price and wat it offered was incredible. i payed last year $450 dollars which included, back up siren, black wires. 2point ommobiliser, remote start, central locking.. tilt sensor, shock sensor, microwave sensor glass break sensors. I loved this alarm as it covered pretty much everything and for the price i couldnt go wrong. Everything was easily adjustable pretty much by turning a nob and served its purpose. Anyway i sold that car and left the alarm in it (stupid i know) and since then have had my car parked out the front and had numerous dik headz ***n with it alreadi..So today i decided if im gonna spend some real cash on the car and its gotta be out the front, i should at least get some sort of protection. I started with jb hi fi and had a browse around there..something along the lines was going to cost me over 1200 dollars for all the extra mods which i previously had and it was a " python " alarm.. I thought that was a joke and went to autobarn. I enquired about the alarm i previously bought and they said sum bullshi* that they dont make them alarms anymore and theres no way i would of got it for that price etc etc.. there base model was $650 for a viper alarm and then was roughly 150 + for each added sensor eg, shock 150, micor 150, tilt 120..so once again was gonna cost me over a 1,000dollars..far to much for an alarm i think. Then nextly i went back to autobarn in Dandenong where i orignaly bought my vision alarm from and questioned the boys down there. They started mumbling and hummin and aring and had no idea, then the bloke " Mark " came out who sold me the alarm a year ago and i recognised him. He knew straight away wat i was talking about and told me " vision " dont make the alarms anymore its udner a new manufacturer named " vge (vision global electronics) " I told him wat i use to have and the price i paid for it and he brang out a catalogue and talked me threw it.. I found a new model which was very similar.. it had the back up siren, shock sensor, glass break, 2remotes, immobolisers.. He told me this was $400 alone and if i wanted the other 2 sensors (microwave and tilt) + the siren to be louder it was gonna cost close to $600.. I was pretty happy with this price as its everything included for less then anyone else was trying to sell me. After a long hard think and some arm twisting i've agreed to get it all complete with all the sensors, 2remotes,immobolisers,back up siren's etc.. for $575 fitted. Just thought i would share my alarm hunting with u fellas and save u some time and money if use are trying to get something similar. Oh btw on the gps tracking ones, i went nextdoor to some window tinting shop forgot the name and they specialise with mongoose alarms. They did supply and fit gps trackers in car which can be set up to any alarm even factory and all u need is a simcard. These fitted were $500 dollars. Ur tracker sends u txt's to ur mobile fone of any intruder alerts, theft, etc etc.. and if ur car is stolen u send a txt to the number and it sends back the co ordinates of the car which u can just type into google maps/ earth and find ur car. Hope this has helped you guys out a bit Good luck and keep safe

Bump.

I'm sick of seeing stolen threads. So it's time for a reminder for people to use their brains.

Simplest and easiest methods.

Garaged
Don't attract any extra attention etc

Keep them safe people.

How does this look to anyone with gps experience? Doesnt look too bad, independant power source, but unless i missed it i didnt read anything about a SIM card being needed so i dont see how it could transmit to your phone?

I had a little idea so let me know if you think its a good/bad idea.

With iPhones you have the app "Find My iPhone" which lets you go on the website and search for where your iphone is in google maps. What about if you bought an old iPhone for $1-200 bucks, hard-wired it into power in your car so it was permanently charging/on and hide it high up in your dash or somewhere they couldn't get to it quickly. Then when you find out it's stolen you jump on a computer and search for your phone which is inside the car. A lot cheaper than a $600 dollar PLUS GPS system no?
