Rb30 overheating after head gasket replacement

Ok after an hour of reading old threads still not 100% sure whats happening I cracked a head due to a small pin hole in the radiator so I got another head machined and crack tested and leak tested while I was driving mine around for a few more days hoping to do a swap over in the one day (by the way is an rb30 gq patrol) so I finished it the other night put my oil in put the water in no coolant yet though started bleeding it and after a few mins and a few revs I noticed the temp gauge got to 3/4 has never got there b4 not 4bing or towing. Now obviously I got the radiator fixed and cleaned out while I was doing the head but the problem I have is that the top hose is getting that hot I can hear it bubbling in the hose but the bottom hose is cold so naturally u would think thermostat so I bought I new tridon high flow no difference tried running it with no thermostat all the hoses were Luke warm but were all the same temp unlike with it in. So any ideas would b great the car itself idles and revs beautifully timing set at 15 deg. Cheers people's

Sounds like air bubble did you put a funnel in your radiator and fill it with water so it is up way higher than the motor

Yeah spoke to a couple of people today and they all said air lock at the thermostat looks like I might just have to keep bleeding it and hope it gets out

Does it have bleed bolts in the cooling system same as a VL & R31? Put a bottle in the radiator filler, upside down with the bottom cut out and get the coolant level above the inlet manifold and head..

The thermostat will have a jiggle valve make sure its at the top it'll help get the air lock out also if the bottle trick dont work jack the front corner of ute up so the radiator higher and engine tilted
