2 speed glide or turbo 350

As some of you may know i have a torana which i am currently building a engine for but im not sure which auto to put in it.

a few of the engine specs are:
VT 5.0L block
forged pistons/rods
355 stroker
platinum roller rockers
msd ignition/distributor
272 solid cam
750dp
etc etc cbf listing it all

im only planning on driving the car once a week, most probably on the weekend... im hopeing for the car to run low 11 if possible high 10... would a glide be the best way to go? or is a turbo 350 better on the street?

Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 when built correctly would cope perfectly well with that power. Even a T700 4 speed would be fine.. if your wanting to street drive it and still run some fast times your best of going for a 3 or 4 speed.

T400 handle more power but take a bit more from the engine. my 700 is good because i use it as a daily driver.

speak to an auto shop and ask them how much quicker the glide would be with the combo... if its gonna be like 4-5 tenths quicker then go for it.. if its only gonna make 1 tenth difference then theres no point at all, unless its a lot cheaper to build... its only a weekend car so gear choice wont be a major concern.

go a t400, with a shift kit or full manualised box if you can be bothered to shift all the time....

T400 is a good box, as long as you get it built properly

mate if your just going to drive it on the weekend go the powerglide!also with the cam choice go up to the 288 solid instead of the 272 solid,i had a 272 in one of my vl's and found it wasnt gonna get me anywhere near the low 11's unless i put some n2o into it!all the best

10.4 is very impressive with the crane 272 solid,as its not a very large cam!the 272 will be much more streetable cause youll be able to get away with using a smaller converter!

i understand where your coming from ido_11 as a 288 is much bigger but i was wanting to use the smaller convertor and that why i was looking at the 272... if i went with a 288 what would be the lowest convertor i could go to achieve decent times as i dont really want a 5000convertor on the street

i think you would get away with using around a 4200 stall, but if you wern't going the stroker route you would need anywhere from a 4500-5000 converter, its not so much the converter that makes driving on the street a pain its the diff gears your running!i was running a 5200 converter and 4.11's and it wasnt as bad as you think!go the 288 youll love it

i think you would be able to get away with around a 4200 converter cause your going the stroker route,if you were going with the standard stroke you would need anything from 4500-5000 stall!big converters arn't really that bad on the street as long as you run the right diff gears!go the 288 youll love it.

4000rpm minimum.

should still be using a 4000rpm converter with the 272 anyway

what diff gears will u be running PEAKN-6?

since it's a vt block how come u didnt take advantage of roller cams etc?..

also, what inlet manifold will u be running?

edit: go the t350.

peakn-6 the best way to get the right converter is put your motor on a engine dyno, most quality engine builders should have one!the dyno printout will give you everything you need to know!

GMH-GEM.. i know i could have taken advantage but my mate reckons we didnt need to.. ill be running 4.11s in the rear and the manifold is a Torque Power manifold
ido_11: i was wanting to stick around 4000 - 4500 convertor but i guess if i gota go bigger i got no choice!.... i might just take up the 288 if it is able to be streetable!

sounds like your going to have a pretty tuff torana peakn-6!even though ive always had commodores im a torana man at heart myself!my brother has a 9 second lh which will be featured in a number of magazines very shortly, and he is using a 355 holden motor himself so theirs plenty of potential!i have a couple of engine shots if you would like a look?

go a 288 with a 4500converter.
u may as well, u got the rest of the engine parts to do it - providing your compression is in the 10s..

another option is the new crane 280 cam.
