I have a basically stock engine that blows away VS SS's every day of the week..

Only mods are...650 Hp HOLLEY, edelbrock manifold, exhaust, aftermarket heads

253's will struggle to keep up with a mildly worked 308 or 350..

253s will struggle to keep up to stock v6s! they would be a decent amount slower unless they had some mods
sorry mate but your barking up the wrong tree trying to mod a 253, u can get power out of em of course but they will just never have the torque of a 308 so they wont be as nice to drive. Why dont u do the lexus v8 conversion thats being discussed, would be cheaper, make more power and be 1000x better to drive

253's were built to rev their guts out.. and if your ever in melb, come show me how good it goes.. instant torque is created by cubic inches..

Low rev's & cubes make torque.
High revs make hp.
Learn from others mistakes or just go ahead & burn a heap of dosh & then come back & tell us you should of started with a 308

lol sorry but their torque is very mediocre... i owned one for nearly 2 years mate, i know!
the difference in torque between my 253 vh and my vq 5litre was night and day, the vq at half throttle would toast a 253.
They were not build for torque they were built to rev, they only have a 3.8" bore or something...

253's might be ****, but imagine the laugh you would get when you toast someone and tell them they got beaten by a 253 boat anchor....

tonner 253's car at the moment has been COMPLETELY STRIPPED and has been for the last THREE (3) YEARS!!!!!! The 253 he's talking about is an A&A Reconditioned motor with all the mods he has said. Hes got a Commodore disc brake Diff (BAD MOVE) and the M20 4 speed box. and he reckons its gonna be the fastest V8 in town! So wat if it blew a VS SS off the road, my once STOCK STANDARD VL RB30E had eaten many a V8 and most of them were SS's, its the driver. So stop trying to be big, cause its only a 253, and stop USING MY ACCOUNT ****!!!!!

I dont know wether you guys have ever taken any notice, But all the wrecker yards that I have been to, all the 253's have their heads missing but the block remains, this is because the heads fit both 253 and 308. Nobody wants a little V8 when you can purchase a bigger version for an amount that would be negligible by comparison.
My old man has a HQ SS, which came with a 253 4 speed, He wanted more power so he ripped the 253 out and replaced it with a mild 308 which goes a hell of alot better, and hes grateful he went the bigger option.

either way both of them are dinosaurs, 308 or 253! 253 being a lot worse.. 308s stock leave a lot to be desired and 253s struggle to even dust 202s! thats all they are anyway a 202 bore with 8 cylinders. Yes they rev nice but why rev when u arent making enough power, they have poor flowing heads...
a 308 with VN heads is where its at, completely different story!

I have no idea why anyone would bother with a 253, Cubes is where it is at.
Looking at his profile the guys is like 18-19, no wonder he thinks his 253 is quick.

i cant talk, i did a 253 transplant into a 202 when i was that age and thought it was great lol
the sooner u get out of that phase the better! so start now, attach the 253 to a chain on a ship and leave it there, thats all they're good for

I think we have all been there and done that, or something similar. It really comes down to being cost effective, If he sold his 253, and bought a 308 and went from there he would probably be on the right track. Building a car to suit your budget is the best option.
