Tom's Cherry Black RB25DET VL Commodore

It's not finished, but it is on the road!

The car has been in the build for around four and half years, and last week the cert was finally signed off, the car made legal and driven to Auckland. Stoked! Rattled off a few pics tonight for you boys to see.

1987 Holden GTS - originally RB30 manual in dark red.

Mods so far are:

Bare metal respray in HSV Cherry Black mica
Colour coded chrome window surrounds
Shaved aerial and passenger door lock
Calais side skirts
Calais lower door mouldings
Group A SS front bib spoiler
Group A SS boot spoiler
Group A SS grille (this was factory on the GTS)
HSV VZ 19 inch alloys with 235/35/19 Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric tyres
VK SS taillights
New headlights and corner lights
New door mirrors (colour coded)
New front bumper
New bailey channel in doors
Under body deadened
VE style window wipers
Tinted windows
Monroe GT Gas shocks
Dobisport lowering springs
Nolathane bushes everywhere
Nolathane strut tops
Whiteline sway bars front and rear
Nolathane panhard rod
VT Commodore hub and brake upgrade with slotted rotors
Calais disk brake conversion with slotted disks
One inch master cylinder and turbo booster
Three core radiator
Battery relocated to boot - Optima Gold Top
RB25DET - pretty much stock - 215kW at the rear treads
Heavy duty clutch
Custom plenum
Stainless steel intercooler plumbing
Large intercooler - painted satin black
GReddy type RS bov
Oil catch can
Relocated power steer reservoir
Satin black washer bottle
Lengthened driveshaft
Driveshaft loops x2
Heavy duty fuel pump
Link G3 ecu
2.5 inch exhaust
K&N pod filter
New carpet
Retrimmed door cards
Resprayed dash
Momo steering wheel
Recaro bucket seats (front)
Custom speaker pods (front)
Custom parcel shelf
Pioneer headunit, 4 channel amp, 4 speakers
small boost gauge

When I get my sh1t sorted I'll do a full write up and take some better pics. Really needs a nice sunset to bring out the paint.

At the moment I'm just enjoying driving it and tinkering with it in the garage!

Not like that's a bad thing!! Haha - I think it's just because of the wheels and the front bar and rear spoiler. Mine is no where near as clean and tidy as this - i wish!

Well done Tom - Enjoy driving her!

Cheers,

Jason

First post updated with the list of mods.

Thanks for all the comments guys - I'm pretty happy with the way it looks on the outside. Just the interior to finish, and a whole list of niggles to sort out.

Mike - I'm guessing your disappointed cos I dropped the RB30?! Am I? Yes and no! In the end, I think that by using a 25DET, I got the power and reliability that would have cost me more had I stuck with the 30. Originality has never been an issue for me. Cars are a blank canvas for us to express ourselves with!!

Kelvin, yeah it does look a little like Jase's car - what can I say - the guy has taste!! Pretty sure I had those wheels first tho - they have just been in my garage for a verrrry long time!!

oh dont get me wrong was ment as a good thing, i really like Jase's VL, and yours is also very nice Tom, but yea it is only at first glance you see wheels and part of kit with dark similar colour that i think that.
never the less look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
Also will you be slinging the camera at power cruise this year or behind the wheel?

Haha, it's all good. With the VL scene here as small as it is, it's inevitable that we're gonna get a few similar looking cars.
Hoping to be at Powercruise, probably shooting, but would be nice to get out on the track for a cruise!

Nah because who's going to get the sweet pics from PC etc... when you have this sitting in your shed ready to rumble I wouldn't blame you if you kept the cam at home

I don't really get into the whole power plant debate as you say it's your car and be abit blah if we all had the same combo

Haha, cars and photography are my passions, so chances are I'll be there with my camera, hopefully I can twist a few arms in order to go for a cruise too!
Can't wait to get out on a cruise with a bunch of VLs now!
