This is Adam's 1987 VL Calais turbo which he bought about 9 months ago now. He had previously enjoyed owning a VK and VL Executive Commodore before he had saved enough cash to start looking for a calais turbo. After 7 months of looking (and only coming across a few fairly poor examples) he finally stumbled across this VL, which was completely standard, had 175,000 kms on it, leather interior and cost $8000, which is a pretty good price in Tassie. Since then he has spent a few dollars on it.

The first thing was a 3 inch mandrel bent system from the Turbo all the way back with no cat and one muffler. Next was screwing up the boost; it has an adjustable turbosmart bleed valve from 7 to 12psi but Adam tells me he always has it set on the high setting. Next came the cold air intake. Adam has left the box there and run a pipe from inside the box, through the guard and to the front bumper with a K & N high flow filter.

Adam tells us that coming soon are an intercooler and high flow turbo so that more boost can be run. Keeping the engine fed will be a bigger fuel pump, and a bit of gear box work will have to be done, otherwise its life won't be too long at all. An oil/air separator will also be added into the equation.

The outside is in great condition and the paint is original. It has been lowered 3 inches at the back and 2.5 at the front with the hand of King springs and Adam has bolted up a set of 17 inch AMG Techart Lace wheels with Toyo rubber for grip.

The interior is in excellent condition except for the drivers seat the leather is cracked in a few spots but the back seat and passengers seat are as good as new. The extras include a Momo Race steering wheel, Speco Boost Gauge and Autometer Monster Taco on the a pillar, Clarion head unit and Sony crossovers in the parcel shelf.

However he enjoyed the sound of the car over the stereo (as we all do). A fire extinguisher is mounted under the drivers seat just in case, a turbo timer has been fitted, Momo shoulder pads, oh and a factory electric sun roof because we all like being burnt on the top of our heads.

The other car is the pics is one of his mates cars, it is a supercharged 355 stroked VN Calais which looks very sweet indeed.

Car was sold a fair while back and written off in a big way. Don't think too many more mods will be taking place.
