mine spits a bit if I go full but, I mean what is the point of filling up, then you
are driving around with more weight, I only ever go to half then use the trip meter
as a guide, never have the spitting thing happen and only ever add exactly
20 or 30L from approx a 1/4 of a tank left, that makes my economy calc
easier and dont drive with a full tank,

So does anyone know what causes this? Mine is the same, once it gets at about half a tank it clicks, then I have to drizzle the fuel in really slow, takes like 10 minutes to fill it up. Then the ******* surges once its below half a tank, so I have to fill up twice as often for twice as long.

i could have sworn this issue has been brought up before and someone said it is because the breather hoses on the filler neck are perished or something like that... anyone clarify ?

What's the best way to unblock them? My Calais spits fuel too, I checked the hoses and they look like they've been replaced not too long ago, plenty of crap on them, but once wiped off the hoses are in excellent condition, so I'm guessing mine may be slightly blocked, or possibly not correctly connected to where they should be, I'm yet to check that, no time.

Lets have a think about this 1 guys....... i mean the fuel prob not the anal sex thing.

If the fuel isn't going in it is most likely that its because the air isn't coming out and where does the air come out?

It comes out of the top of the tank up the big hose that connects to the filler neck just behind the grommet or out through the hose that leads to the carbon cannister.
so maybe next time your running on fumes drop your tank and check all the breather hoses.

try pulling the nozzle out of the filler neck. only have it in there enough for the fuel to enter.

i think it also depends on wat fuel despenser you get cos some are like that. but hey nothings made to be easy and simple these days.

hehe, <hrrrm> VL88WA - too much time on the net ;-)

The design of the curved neck and the speed some pumps seems to froth
the fuel just below the neck this release of air seems to be the reason for
the spit, either that or the time delay on some fuel bowsers is just a fraction
too long. I guess you could have a combination of those things that make the
spit worse, Ive noticed on some occasions hardly any frothing, mostly in
summer, this migth be around the time the fuel companies change the mix to
make it a little less volatile, not so much here in Australia perhaps but far
more common in Europe and USA.
