I was talking to MadHatter on irc once about this very subject (differences between n/a and turbo jatco's).

This is what MadHatter told me (i saved this into a file as i knew i'd need it later hehe - sorry if some of its missing :? but im sure it will give you an idea).

Quote:
[20:41:09] <MadHatter> 2. Torque converter crankshaft pivot brush is different (dont actually know wtf this means but it is apparently so)
[20:41:37] <MadHatter> 3. Torque converter has marking on it, on turbo ones is says 'NGD'
[20:42:11] <MadHatter> 4. 2nd gear and overdrive have different brake band servo pistons
[20:42:21] <MadHatter> (have the details to the mm in this book here)
[20:42:42] <MadHatter> 5. no torque converter **** in the oil pump assembly
[20:42:58] <MadHatter> 6. Direct clutch drum is different
[20:43:39] <MadHatter> 7. Different clutch layout for ms1 and ml4 boxes (details if you want)
[20:44:09] <MadHatter> 8. the plenetary centre in the ml4 is a square and in the ms1 is a circle (?!)
[20:44:30] <MadHatter> 9. different bush in front planetary sun gear
[20:45:23] <MadHatter> 10. "connecting drum one way clutch assembly" is different
[20:45:42] <MadHatter> 11. Vacuum diaphram is smaller in ms1
[20:46:20] <MadHatter> 12. Input shaft on ms1 does not have sealing ring and intermediate shaft is smaller
[20:46:44] <MadHatter> 13 output shaft has more speedometer gauge teech
[20:47:05] <MadHatter> 14. ALL the valve body calibration stats are different
[20:47:23] <MadHatter> 15. presure regulator sleeves are different
[20:47:50] <MadHatter> 16. **** seemingly pointless differences:
[20:48:06] <MadHatter> pressure regulator plug slightly different
[20:48:14] <MadHatter> pressure modifier vlave slightly different
[20:48:31] <MadHatter> 1-2nd shift valve different spoo, diameter
[20:48:50] <MadHatter> 2nd-3rd shift plug different spool thingo
[20:49:05] <MadHatter> seperator plug has different holes
[20:49:10] <MadHatter> *plate
[20:49:25] <MadHatter> ok thats about it
[20:49:32] <MadHatter> also the computer is different
[20:49:46] <MadHatter> hope thats what yer looking for
[20:49:57] <InsaneVL> ok.. cool.. thanks for that.. u should put all that in a file for future reference
[20:50:07] <MadHatter> in summary, theres lots of little differences but not much strength wise
[20:50:09] <MadHatter> yeah lol
[20:50:17] <MadHatter> its a bitch transcribing to a computer
[20:50:21] <InsaneVL> heheh yeah
[20:50:32] <InsaneVL> so its not all that much stronger ??
[20:50:40] <MadHatter> nah
[20:50:59] <MadHatter> just different tuning characteristics for the different power curve of the engine
[20:51:35] <MadHatter> and the different sun gear and bands on 1-2nd and 2nd-3rd.. dont know how much of a difference that would make tho..

Ok so basically just find a Auto VLT box that requires rebuild or something
Probably too much to stuff around with to make N/A box into Turbo box specs???
.

ufo
depending on the condition of the insides of the vlt box , sometimes its just as easy to get a na box made up to the spec of a vlt , if the vlt is rooted then most parts get replaced too , so just do it to the na.
worth it believe me.

yeah... tell me about it.. gearbox is shifting well, but prolly could do with another service, and the high stall isnt stalling as high as i imagined it would, (might have something to do with the fact that im not making as much torque as a turbo would (shrug). either way... still a bargain. keep your eye open

Sounds like it would cost a small fortune to convert NA to T.
