Good work mate, really relevent post and some good encouragement to the people in this thread that have little money and are doing their best

EDIT: In case it slipped your eyes, they are talking about NA-t record, not a normal VL turbo record, as in stock NA pistons or stock NA bottom ends. I doubt the maatouks cars are either.

The car made 315-330rwkw from memory and run a 10.87 on its second outing on avgas. I believe it ran low 11's on straight pump, but he never pushed the setup too hard as he always intended to sell it. Rajab racing built a car years ago that was in zoom that had stock NA pistons and rods in it that went 9.9, so I'd say you'll have to beat that time for the record.

High compression is ok to a point, but anywhere in the 9's and your asking for trouble on pump fuel. Where high comp is starting to get common place in big hp engines is running C16 and the like where the octane of the fuel can support the detonation threshold of the compression and boost your running. Forget trying to run 10's on pump fuel with stock NA compression. Unless you have spares, or like rebuilding often

For the record, Cometic make multi layer steel gaskets for the RB30, their .073" head gasket gives roughly 8.6:1 comp, which I recommend as the best all round compression for both pump and race fuels, and they have a 3mm head gasket which drops it to the factory 7.8:1 compression. Both work equally well as a decompression measure AND a head gasket, no more dodgy blow outs with spacer plates and the like.

No it was a different car that was in zoom and was after rajab started building their own engines, ran a 9.9? with stock NA pistons.

well currently i am running a totally stock rb30na

havn't done anything to it other than bolt my manifolds to it

it's been sitting in the shed for 4 years and was seized 4 hours before we started it

have currently run a 12.9 with street tyres, next street meet is next friday, let u know how i go then

it's a bit smokey through the breathers but exhaust is clean as a whistle, and has a bit of blow by at the 10psi mark but other than that it's great,

just spent 2days on a car rally floggin the **** out ot it, (and nearly emptying the sump) had to put 4litres of oil in it on the Sunday before we started racing again.

i think it will be my best motor yet

so the setup is as follows

totally stock na rb30, un opened 100k plus
cpc manifold with 6boost injectors
6boost gt35 kit
standard coil
wolf 3d
jet automotive auto

yep that is what its pretty much classed as, ill let you know my time next week.

mine also is unopened anything, all bolt on.

all mine has is the following:

garrett gt 32/71 turbo
vlt injectors cleaned / serviced (watever you wanna call it)
chipped vlt ecu
bosch 984 fuel pump.
front mount cooler
3inch dumpy from turbo to cat.

tranny is getting done next week as i was told by stan at preston to do it after the conversion, it will only have a stage 2 shift kit, tranny cooler, service thats all, it has been recoed 10,000kms ago if that makes a difference.

my diff is mini spooled with 4.11 gears.

i guess it can all be in 1 class, as in unopened high comp setups, regardless of what your comp your using, injectors etc. but it does obviously help alot more then the restricted vlt ecu and injectors.

Looks like the same setup my best mate has(VLCOTY), but he has a tighe cam and decomped to 7.8 with a cometic. Should be another NA convert contender if it holds together, base boost on pump fuel will be a minium of 26-27psi, and see what it makes from there
cheers

is it possable to head stud my motor without doing a gasket? cos i told my self if a gasket goes or i thick head gasket it, there would be extensive head work done. so i cant afford that yet so if i use studs can i just re torque it and be done?
