Got some more work done yesterday.
Got my last two hoses for the oil cooler sorted, so that's now all done. Also fitted some knock sensors off a Falcon. Sparky was there finishing off the last bits and pieces, we fitted the ECU and and powered up the dash etc. Not long now before we can turn the key, just need a set of leads and some coolant and we should be good to go I hope. Once it is running and we know there aren't any issues with the harness it'll come out again and get braided before final installation. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well, the car is running, great success, no rods out, no fuel leaks, no electrical fires.
Feels incredibly good hearing it running again after such a long time, and we had relatively small issues getting it running as well, one plug needed to be re-pinned, and my PWR radiator "which takes a standard radiator cap" leaks around the radiator cap, seems the reach is a tad off. Very keen to see how it goes once it is finished ![]() Huge thanks to Mitch at WA Performance and Jase for doing the wiring! ![]() ![]() |

It's been a hectic month, that's for sure.
Car went back on the dyno a few days after it was started, it didn't quite perform as we wanted and didn't respond well to boost what so ever, it just seemed choked up. Head came off and was sent away and got machined to take 1mm oversize valves, and I ordered a new TX2 cam from Crow along with valve springs to suit. Slapped engine back together with some new gaskets etc. and fired it up. It picked up an additional 30 rwhp on gate pressure with the new cam and valve combo compared to before, and seemed a fair bit happier. The Engine has now done just over 500kms, and last night I took it down to the drags to see how she was going, with 19psi of boost, I managed an 11.38 @ 121mph with a 1.80 60´, so not great driving from my part, but very happy either way, haven't driven the car in ages, and it is a new PB for myself and the car. Will be putting some more kms on it and make sure everything is sweet before we start pushing more boost in it, so just time to enjoy and get some seat time now I believe =) |

Went out and snapped a few quick photo's.
It has now done about 700kms since build, and seems to be working alright, touch wood =) The photos are, much like my driving, far from pro. Either way, here are some of them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Time for that yearly update I guess.
Decided to make some changes, so engine and box came out. Converter was sent away and tightened up a smidge along with a service. Now drives a lot nicer on the street, but it does take a bit longer to get on boost down the drags. Also went a bigger rear housing, went from a 0.84 to a 1.00, and whilst I had that ceramic coating, I had an EGT bung welded on the manifold and had that re coated too. Ordered a trigger kit, bottom part from Hi Octane to suit an RB26, and top part from Ross Racing to suit the SOHC RB30. Reason for going the Hi Octane bottom kit was that I wanted to maintain my current balancer and oil pump setup, so this was the cheaper way of doing it. ![]() Turned out though that the Hi Octane kit didn't actually work with the Ross balancer either way, so had to replace that with an ATI balancer and pump drive which brought the price up to about the same sort of coin as the Ross bottom kit either way, so lesson learnt there. ![]() ![]() Dizzy was removed, and a core plug was slapped in place. ![]() Tank was emptied, E85 was poured in, and the car was retuned. Less timing and less boost made 421 rwhp on a hubber, couldn't go past that unfortunately as I was running out of fuel pump, seems as a single 044 didn't love life. I took it down to the drags to give it a test, and it went 11.1@123mph, so a new PB for me and the car which was nice. Next on the cards will be a bigger fuel system with a drop tank, twin internal pumps, new lines, new injectors and a retune. |

The diff centre rolled up late last week, dropped it off to Final Drive along with the rear axle.
Got it all back Yesterday with the centre fitted and new seals and bearings. Kinda keen to get it back in and see the difference, they did note that the original centre and bearings were looking pretty tired, so no real surprises there. ---------- Post added 04-05-18 at 06:22 ---------- ![]() |

The diff is in.
Driveline seems tighter which is nice. Paints lovely lines now too. Apparently the stock centre was pretty tired according to the shop who fitted it for me. Also helped a mate empty his workshop the other day. As a "thank you" he gave me a set of VL Calais wheels, Calais rear seat and a set of metal venetians. So need to get them refurbished and trimmed to suit my interior. ---------- Post added 05-06-18 at 20:59 ---------- ![]() |

Have started buying some parts to upgrade my fuel system so I can push a bit more boost.
The plan is to get rid of the undercar surge tank with single 044 and go with a 3 litre surge tank in the boot with twin Walbro 460 pumps instead. So I ordered a surge and fuel filter from Nuke Performance in Sweden, worked out much cheaper than buying AI or Radium here in Australia. Parts were ordered on Tuesday night and arrived Friday arvo, not half bad for something from the other side of the world and a shipping cost of AU$5. ![]() ![]() Also slapped on some old stockies from the GTO and took the car for a drive. Has been far too long since I drove it last. ![]() |

So more work has been done over the last few months.
I finished up the fuel system, went with -AN8 single feed and -AN6 single return. ![]() ![]() Got some ID1300x injectors and installed them as well, along with an LS1 alternator so that I would have enough power to run the pumps and fan. ![]() Got it tuned to 25 psi, made 546rwhp through the auto, so pretty happy with that. ![]() And took it down to the drags tonight where I ended up getting kicked out after my first pass as it went quicker than 11.0. ![]() All in all, pretty happy with it at the moment ![]() |

So with the last tune, we did run in to some limitations.
The fuel reg was limiting us, and so was the no name Ebay intercooler. I dropped the car off with Rob who fitted a Turbosmart FPR2000 reg, he also fitted up a new cooler from PWR, this one measures 600x330x81mm so higher and thicker. ![]() Rob also had a new catch can setup made for the car along with a breather between rocker cover and sump. ![]() ![]() We also went from the old trusty XF throttle body to a newer AU throttle body with the idle speed control valve on the TB itself which cleaned up the mess of hoses and IACV which were under the plenum before. A retune later and she now makes 610 rwhp at 30psi and comes on boost a good 500rpm earlier than before. ![]() ![]() Collected the car tonight after work, and it drives mint!
