This weekend! RWC inspection and pics and a NEW THREAD!

BTW 5th is f*cked.....does not work whatsoever. Meh, it runs low as revs anyway.

Kyle, YOU need to get my jacket back!

Magna needs new ball joints and wheel bearings up front ($78 supply & fit for ball joints with the arm off the car by Pedders, per arm; $100 for wheel bearings at Bursons, per wheel), install head unit, fix heater fan, replace windscreen, and give the engine a wash.

I'm going as quick as I can, but I might have to move house in the next few months. Believe me, I'm dying to get the twin cam going!

Heres just some photos I took yesterday with my new N95 to give an idea of the height. No motor, so it looks pretty high still.

Actually......it doesn't even look lowered. But it is! Car is very light at the moment!

Hahahaha, Magnatron! Thats actually my avatar over on AM.

But yeah, thats the beast of a daily boys and girls. It doesn't have those plates anymore; the cop confiscated them when I got done driving it unregistered.

The only thing thats changed since last update is I've installed the head unit, and fixed the blower fan. But I'm moving house in two weeks, so it'll have to wait.

I want to eventually get some nice Mitsu five spoke wheels Mitch, and maybe lower it a bit. Get the box reco'ed/replaced, Verada headlights, TJ VRX spolier sprayed silver, power windows, alarm/remote entry, and possibly some Nimbus twin pots (just for better braking when towing). All in time...

Hahaha, yeah.....oh well, new plates eventually.

Did my tax return yesterday, should get enough back to get the Magnatron finished and back on the road! Then, provided I survive filling the tank each week (stupid petrol prices), I can focus on the VL again!

You know how they say light at the end of the tunnel?

I'm like "What tunnel?" at the moment. If I don't do anything extra, it still needs the brake hoses replaced (braided), master cylinder rebuilt, four matching wheels with decent tyres ( I need one VS S-pak wheel and four new tyres), R33 five speed box and all parts associated to fit it, build motor (gaskets, plugs, leads, coolant, oil), intercooler piping, and to put it all together.

Thats not getting all the extra stuff I want, like the Calais interior, new front bumper and moulds, respray the rear bar, new pads/discs, new clutch (that'll be interesting), rims (VE SS V 19").....so on and so forth.

Thats also assuming no problems pop up along the way.....hmm...

She moved into her new home today, a secure garage.

MUCH better.

And the ol' Magnatron getting moved over. She's up on stands at the moment; I've got the front lower control arms and hub/knuckle assemblies out at the moment getting new ball joints and wheel bearings respectively.

Should be on the road in the next few weeks, fingers crossed.

Just a quick update!

Such a fan exists! Had a browse at Supercheap Auto today, and they have a bunch of thermo fans for various applications (I was very surprised). I bought their smallest one, a Calibre 10" 12V Thermo Fan (PLU No. 119180 - AFAIK they are only sold at SCA, as it says on the packaging) - set me back $59. The stock fans are 12", but these ones have a lot more blades....besides, they'll just stay on longer if they need to to get the job done.

Here's a little info I found about other people using them:
http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/...p/t249786.html

Stock unit, and replacement Calibre 10" 12V kit:

Difference in depth (the reason why the stock unit cannot be used when fitting an intercooler in the way that I have) between the stock and replacement units (12cm VS 5cm):

VLified:

And...

...done!

I put plastic around both the plug to the fan and the rehydrator, just to prevent water and dirt getting into them over time.

Regarding other major work on the car, money is again the issue. I'm hoping to do some more suspension work over summer; full Nolathane or urethane bush kit, some Whiteline sway bars, maybe some adjustable strut tops? Not sure yet. Also looking at ditching the current brakes; in favour of some Nissan 300ZX four pots on VT 330mm slotted discs up front, and Nissan R32 GTS-T twin pots on slotted discs at the rear.

Well.....after having a good read through the AU Falcon Twin Thermo Fan conversion thread (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=51825) last night, I decided today I would try it.

50/50 on whether I would do it again; it's a major pain in the arse. But they're in, after much swearing, hacksawing and filing miniscule bits of plastic, and hammering the general work area. I used EF thermo fans, as my local wrecker had no ELs with fans still in them, or AUs for that matter. AFAIK the only difference is that the EFs run twin 14" fans, instead of twin 16". Meh, like the auxillary fan, it'll just stay on longer if it needs to.

They set me back $75, and I'll probably use them in conjunction with an aftermarket adjustable water temperature sensor fitted in the top radiator hose; set to both go off around 88 degrees.

Here they are when I first got home, before I gave them a clean:

Fast forward about 5 hours, and it is now night time. But the fans are in!

When I put them in, I drove the daily up to the shed and hooked the fans up to the battery. The blow real hard, but the wrong way. Swapped the polarity around, and now they pull the air through the radiator. I'm very impressed with their air flow; my brother and I could feel it sucking a lot of air through the intercooler. That's passing through the bumper, auxillary fan, condensor, and radiator!

Here's a quick vid I took of them in action:

http://s234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ermoFans-1.flv

Decided to finish off the thermos, so I bought a Davies Craig Thermatic Switch from Supercheap today ($54.99).

Just need to get myself a couple of 40 amp relays and another fuse holder, and it'll be good to go.

And here we have it, all wired in.

(This is just a cut and paste of what I've posted in the AU Falcon Twin Thermo Fan install thread [http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showth...57#post1946357] )

Here is the pair of 40 amp relays that operate both of the fans (installed where the regular relays are near the battery, although on the other side near the air box)...

...via the Davies Craig thermatic switch (adjustable between 40-100 degrees)...

...and wired in via the factory Ford plugs.

Here is the wiring diagram provided with the switch. I used the one marked with the tiny red star on the left (Twin Fans, Thermatic Only).

http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ingDiagram.jpg

Of the two plugs that come with the fans, one of them is a three pin, which I assume means that fan is used also as a condensor fan for the air conditioning in the Falcon. I have a separate fan for this (see above), so that pin (white wire) was not used.
