VP V8 304 Engine change over, Now won't start! PLEASE HELPS!!!

Hi guys,

We've got a VP V8 BT1 we did an engine swap on recently, engine is out of a VR Statesman, all acc were changed over from the original engine inc loom and ecu.
Engine wouldn't start.

We tried everything we could think of to get her going, got a whole running 93 VP Berlina 5lt, changed over the ecu, loom, rotor button, dizzy cap, leads etc but still nothing.

We have confirmed that it has spark, injector pulse, fuel coming through etc.

We did a compression test on the engine, all cylinders are around 140-150 except one which is about 105.

Now what im asking is would that stop it from starting all together or should it start and just run abit sluggish?

Whats the 100% best way to set the timing from scratch so i can make sure its timed properly etc..

Could it be the distributor??

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Feel free to ask questions etc I just need it running again!

Cheers Guys!!

Alby...

If it was out 180 it would also back fire threw the air box. So it's turning over just not starting?

Hey guys, yep only thing VR related is bare engine.

It turns over but just doesn't fire, not even close.

Is there a sure fire way to set the timing on these things?

And could there be anything else causing it?

We've changed all the ruses and relays relating to the efi system etc..

It's got me stumped!

vn-vs dissys are same, its just the plug that differs, being a vp he should have a newer black plug type anyway

is the dissy a genuine bosch? could be dead ignition module or hall effects sensor in the dissy? time to whip out the multimeter id say

For the timing to bet set you need number 1 cyl at TDC, try putting a screwdriver down the spark plug hole and turn the motor over by hand to find TDC.
When you find TDC the rotor button should be pointing at the passenger seat.
