Hows it going we are looking into building a Cortina at the min , anyway is it possible to have it legal with a 351 ?
or even on club rego ?

I have been told you cant get them legal anymore with a v8. but need more info if its worth building or not.

Check with an engineer before you do anything

You'll need an engineers regardless of whether it's on club reg or not as Cortinas never
came out with a V8 from the factory.

If you want a small car with an '8 but don't want the hassle of an engineers cert'
build a small car that had a factory v8 option. My old man used to have a Rambler
Hornet (bout the size of a Corty) with a 351 but it didn't need a cert' as they're a
factory V8 optioned car.

I believe there was 302 powered cortinas a available overseas in TC/D range . Dunno if you're right about your old man's rambler either . My VH comes out with a V8 from factory but I need an engineers if I wanna use an ls1 ...... I can't see a problem fitting a 302 ( 4.9 litre ) when the biggest motor they had on offer here was a 250 ( 4.1 litre ) .

He's had three Hornet's, two of them had 351's and one had a 302. None of them needed an engineer's certificate.

It really just depends on the amount of power the engine puts out. If (still using the Rambler example) one was installed with an LS engine or a 454 or
something, I'm sure it would need an engineer's certificate to be rego'd.

Nah, honestly it was all legit. There were a few blokes in the Rambler Club he was a member of
who also had rego'd Ford V8 powered Hornets without needing an engineer's.

The AMC Hornet's came out of the factory with the option of 304ci or 360ci's hence not
needing a certificate for a smaller motor.

Apologies THC for slightly hi-jacking your thread.
