vl calais custom install

hey everyone.. thought id post some pics of my project install in my calais...

havent put any here before and might appeal a bit more to u stereo heads

All this work has been done by me in my shed..

door trims will be painted 2 pac white and will hold a set of 6.5" mb quartz Q-line splits and a alpine type r woofer also to provide more lower end frequency as quartz are known for being a little tinny.

type r woofer will be running 60-120 hertz only

will post some more pics later and explain full system also if you guys are interested cheers dave

question: how do you open the doors from the inside? haha nah sweet job mate, should look tops. have you thought about covering with material insted of just paint? paint might get scratched.. good job all the same!

Looks pretty awesome so far. But i agree with magoo - upholstery would be the go, especially since it's a Calais.

If you want some extra cash to help me with EVILPET's front door trim cards / fibreglassing let me know. I have all the original cloth and leather that another mate of mine will finish off. Just need the door card made up / fibreglassed.

evilpet- thanks mate, as much as id like to work on an original aero, ill have to pass..... the reason my car has already taken 4 years to get to this stage is the continous amount of cashies ive been doing and 3 months ago i finally started saying no and my car has progressed more than ever..

DOG 21- thanks mate i was starting to think i was posting oto many pics

Rear mounts are made and welded of box tubing, i built them myself and took bout 2 days to make... as u would know the floor is not flat in the rear cause of exhaust clearance and all. so every mount is of different lengths and took ages to get right. but well worth it

nuts are welded to the frame and bolts come up through the floor with strengthing plates underneath also

thanks for the comments guys cheers dave

No worries. I like what I've seen so far so I'm sure it will all turn out sweet in the end. Well if you know anyone that can do the job as good as your handiwork I need my doors done in September this year when I'm back in town.

yeah q line splits rock just a little tinny for my liking.. thats why im goin with a type r woofer also.

Doors have probably taken bout 20 hrs so far... the woodwork has to be perfect to begin with or there no point they still only have first coat also so much work left to do....

evilpet- i have a mate that can do it too... i'll give him a call and ill let u know....

at this stage i should probably let u guys know that i did custom car audio and electrics for over 8 years for a job.... and are now in construction so now its a hobby i spose

thanks for all the comments guys dave

hey guys have just finished 2nd coat of glass on the sub box... and thought id post some up sub box will hold 4 type r 10" subs and will be painted same orange as the car-

woodwork done and ready for cloth

cloth on 4 hrs later (takes ages to get on with no wrinkles)

300 metres of gladwrap

glass needs to be strengthened then can pull out of the car and begin matting it.... needs probly 6 - 8 layers to hold weight and not flex cause box is sealed...

thanks for all the comments guys dave
