Upgrade 3.45 to 4.11 in LSD

Hey,
I gotta LSD with 3.45s. I wanna put the Pintara 4.11s as the have been recommended.

I know the VL diffs can handle a substantial amount of power. Would I need to do anything else to the diff, or will they fit drive and handle with no problem.

Any help from past experiences or experts?

just wondering if u have a manual or auto , 4.11 might be a bit steep for a man , good for a auto but.

I asked about the pintara ratio when I was changing my diff ratio from 3.08 to 3.45 in my VL V8, they said they dont fit to me?? I wanted a 3.89 or 3.7 at the time, I had a mate working at the shop and only the 3.45 was available.

Is it your daily driver GMH-30L? I have a bunky car as my daily driver now, when I changed my diff ratio I didnt have the bunky so i didnt go for a 3.89 or 4.11. I still regret not getting the higher ratio now :?

The car is my daily driver, but I'm not worried about the ratios.
I've already beefed up the Jatco with a STAGE 2 shift and will be adding a trans brake in the near future - will get feedback from my auto guy.

i'm getting different opinions though on the ratios. Some people say that 3.89 is high enough, then again some people say that with 4.11s the car will hammer on take offs. Mixed opinions and I'm in a dillemma, I don't wanna spend money twice.

I was thinking, since I got overdrive anyways and I dont drive the car over 110 maximum when travelling normally on freeways, it wont make much of a difference. The car was made to fly down the quarter and the 4.11s will only make it faster down the 1/4 mile. Thats where Im gonna leave my speeding to, as another month off from driving won't help my job .

I might do it properly and fit the minispool with the 4.11s, or even the 3.89s. I can't make up my mind.

John, I wouldn't go the mini spool, just too **** for daily driving, and plus around this area, cop's are bound to be behind you and bust your ball's. Your axles will also bend from all the turn's you'll do and I don't think your planning to budget big buck's for billet axles for a street cruiser.
And also, go the 4.11 gear's, cause you are packing a 4 speed so you'll be sweet, it's just some people overexagerate, saying it's gonna rev at 5 grand at 100km's and all that

I would do 3.9, 4.11 are way to high for driving a car all day, unless your going to use it just as a strip racer I wouldn't be running 4.11.

I had 3.9 in a vl even then it reved a bit hard for daily driver, but mad on take off.

i am installing 3.89:1 in mine....

its just a ratio change - around $200 for the labour because they need a new bearing and need to align the centre...

I got the 3.89:1 for free so its just costing the $200...

as long as the diff isn't rooted anyway there is no problems.

4:11:1 is a little high because when you boot it you'll just lose traction anyway... *shrug*

Australian Skylines from 86 to 91 have the same sort of diff housings.
ratios are 3.89 for auto and 3.7 for manual. straight fit i believe for the single spinners.

intersting subject guys, im just wondering that my vlt auto sits on 2000rpm doing 80ks(3.45) or so in overdrive, if u changed diff ratios to 3.9 or to 4.11 wat would it roughly rev at doing the same 80ks?

Hoon= Silhouette Skylines have LSD's and i think 4.11 final drive ratio.
Possibly could combine parts and put together a 3.7 LSD? etc.

Hooligan= formula doesn't seem to work for your car! my NA auto does 90k's at 2000rpm and 80k's at 1800rpm.
Theres a few variables like your total wheel diameter and torque converter slipping. So i find this formula can be about 50-100rpm out, According to my cheapy tacho anyway at 100k's i'm doing 2200rpm, this formula reckons 2057rpm or whatever.

Anyhoo i worked it out

RPM = MPH x axle ratio x 336
tire diameter

49.6 x (3.9 x .686) x 336 = approx. 1857 rpm
24 in. (standard)

when i put my detroit style locker in with 4.11 gears in my VL with a 5spd i found during normal driving in lower gears the car was actually slower because it wasnt under as much load and not producing boost, also when it actually come on boost each gear doesnt last long till you change and you havnt put on as much speed.. 4th and 5th are a different story tho. at 100km/h the revs went from 2250 with a 3.45 to 2750 with the 4.11s in 5th

The guys that have 4.11's and 4speed auto how do you find your top end compared to before. What I'm getting at is 3.9 and 4.11 is not much difference.
