dam thats steep. i was going to try and get some of the guys from the forums to import them since they are a dime a dozen over there, but when i came across this one, i couldn't resist.

check out this thread, its all vh/vk45 stuff. in the states there are plenty of them in s14's...dam that would be a nice car. I know there is one being built in newcastle with a forged vh45.

That's the idea but its a standard bottom end so I am already looking at piston and rod options. But hey, I hope it lasts the way it is. It will be all in the tune....safe safe safe.

hey Brad, hopefully the end of the year by we all now what happens to timeframes and budgets.

Started on the engine bay last weekend as this is what is stopping any real progress. Since its the biggest job, thought I would get it out of the way first.

Made some comments in another thread, so thought I would post up engine bay progress here.

I have completely removed all the sikaflex from my strut towers and reinforced it with by seam welding pretty much the whole engine bay. Welding around all the strut towers, behind the tower on the inner guard, chassis rail joins as well as beaver panel, radiator support, steering colum surround, reinforced the cooler cutout. Anything which was spot welded is now completely mig or tig welded with no seams left. You may get the idea I am after a completely smooth engine bay, this to me is the best part to be looking at so some serious time will be spent in there.

Made sure everything is still square, so its looking good for the time being.

Currently just removing all the surface rust since getting the bay soda blasted around 9 months ago and its currently got a few sections in etch primer. Once its all in primer I will post some pics of what I have done, its not the prettiest at the moment.

I have a few little tricks up my sleeve for some custom work just to finish the engine bay off totally, not so much appealing just the small details are what i am aiming at getting done right, the rest will, hopefully, just fall into place LOL.

Busy on plenums for the next few weeks ends, thanks for the queen bitch public holiday this weekend and maybe a overseas order of approximately 10 plenums, 7 so far confirmed which will keep me away from it for a couple if not a few of months.

Now at least I have something to do in the garage if I get a bit over doing work for everyone else's car in the meantime.....ooh what a good feeling it is to be back on a project lol.

There has been a bit of progress between my work.

- inner guards are all finished
- firewall has nearly every hole welded up.
- finally got my spare powerglide gearbox replaced so know I can dummy fit the engine.

Now just have to reblast the remaining bits of the engine bay for a quick primer. In between that, engine and gearbox together might get dropped in this weekend just to see how it looks and figure out the best placement for the turbos.

I am considering a couple of different options for engine mounting....my favourite is a completely custom made chromoly crossmember, steering rack and front suspension.

I'll post some pics after a layer or two of primer has been put down and the engine dropped in to see where I am going to put it.

That should keep me busy for the next 4-6 weeks.

Ariel

well when do cars ever go according to plan......was at the sandblaster today and ended up decided on blasting the whole car for a better finish.

that means the car has to be completely stripped. no wiring loom, remove fuel tank and tow bar and while i am at it, i might as well strip the sound deadening on the interior and do that......hope you guys have plenty of time to sit back and watch cause this is going to drag on

as for hp, not sure but time will tell but...we will see how far the standard internals can be pushed.

So today, the car in this thread found its way to a new home here locally in the gong. Will be coping a rb30 and jatco combo and be a race car only from what i am being told. I did also end up selling the brakes since I don't need them anymore.

I did purchase another VL, this time a Calais, nearly two months ago which has everthing I was going to do, see some previous posts, and a little more. Once I finish off some back orders and the house reno's I will get stuck into it.

Now, finally i can get serious with moving this project along. Turbo's, wastegates and some minor engine components are first on my shopping list......so let's see what the new year brings.

Ariel

Nice work Ariel.

Can I ask why you sold the Berlina and bought a Calais instead?

It was a toss up between spending some $15k on the Berlina or simply buy the Calais which had all the work done (plus a lot more), spend less money, and the bonus was it being a Calais.

I sold the Berlina, the brakes, and looking at selling the two Evo 7 Recaro front seats that came with the Calais, and I have saved myself some $10k......I just couldn't let it go

So by work are you referring to driveline components, or body preps? I was under the impression your Berlina was pretty much 100% body wise?

coming soon Steve ;-)

Yep all in the driveline and suspension. Apart from that, there is not much else to the car. No intrerior, no wiring, the best place to start from absolutely scratch.

It sure was almost 100%. I spent a lot of time in the engine bay, getting it the way I wanted...but its time to do it all over again and learn from the mistakes which cost too much time the first time around.
