Majority of work was carried out in '08 and was still getting work done on it start of '09. Still needs some tweaks, but its an excellent baseline to work with.

From what I can tell James didn't really do much to it, it was mainly done by a macco, Tony who is currently trying to get his other VL ready for the nats.

Engine was dummy fitted in yesterday and I am trying to get some dummy turbos ASAP so I can get the placement of them sorted to get the manifolds/piping/cooler/radiator done.

This is it with the engine dropped in. No mounts made, just sorting out positioning at the moment.

I love how far back it sits, give me plenty of space to work with.

Encountered minor clearance inssue with started motor and position of alternator. No major issue, just a couple of little things I have noticed so far.

Will it really sit that far back!? Looks like it's not even over the sway bar!

Yep, thats the idea. That bit of wood is sitting on the two front toe hooks, so the front of the sump clears the sway bar by about 70mm (just guessing as I haven't measured it yet). I need all the clearance I can get for two turbo, two radiators and all the associated piping in the front.

I will pull it back out soon and put my bellhousing and gearbox case on to make sure it all fits. The idea is to sit it as far back as possible and if it requires a new tunnel, so be it....The less factory parts remain the happier I will be.

What are you complaining about ANK? you have already recessed the firewall an absolute sh1tload. No reason why a narrow V8, like a Windsor, cant fit into yours.

reverse the plenum to face the firewall and put a w2a cooler in the car, not that hard...there are ways around the steering colum in a dedicated race car, just make a new one

...or make a new sandswich plate and save yourself another 40mm

I measured the clearance today and the front of the sump sits 90mm back fron the rear of the sway bar.

yeah....my house is nearly complete so I should be able to get onto it soon-ish haha

have purchased two turbos, two wastegates and completely new chain guide kit (known to fail from factory) so next thing is making engine mounts and exhaust manifolds....that should take me a good 6 months

also have the flanges for the inlet manifolds coming soon, that's where the real fun for me begins.....i have some out there ideas for the inlets

The VH45 in this VH is 50mm from swaybar to sump. That's as far back as we could get it, mostly because of starter to rack clearance. We had to do a heap fiddling to get it that far, manual rack moved across 15mm and the starter hybrided up with some other Nissan starters to place the solenoid up the top. Also ground some surplus block away near the rack coupling .
VH41 would ease the pain quite a bit as it has the starter on the LH side.

You are right that being a race car will ease the pain a fair bit though. JDM VH41 block with VH45 crank would be ideal.

It's an N15 snout, machined so it reaches in far enough to engage the ring gear, with the original VH45 innards and magnet and a small adaptor to allow the two the mate.
I didn't do it myself but my mate that owns the car said it wasn't a big deal once it was nutted out.

I will be. Looks like the end of July is when I will be taking it.

I just want to make sure I have everything ready so I don't waste time travelling getting bits 'n pieces. That way I can just get stuck into it.

I have been checking out Z32 boxes for a VQ30 project I am doing and I reckon you could use a Z32 bellhousing mount starter and adapt that to whatever box you are using.

Could potentially be placed on either side of the bellhousing, wherever is most suitable.
