G'day every one, engine question!!!!!

G'day all!
just wanting to get your suggestions on modding an 86' VL executive
i have about $6000, and am open to all suggestions!
i'd say an engine conversion will be on the plate, which engine would you guys suggest for this price(including labour)????
do you think the RB30ET, or is there another engine/hybrid that you would reccomend?eg keep the engine, replace it with a different model head?

Yeah petros is right!

But with $6 up your sleve u can't go past a RB25DET front cut, bout $4k with manual trans, look around might find 1 cheaper or with a few mods already. Fairly easy, D.I.Y.
The rest will go on diff, brake and suspention u/g's but then u will have a pritty sweet ride

Yeah i agree with you HOLD64, a stock RB25 still only puts out about 190 flywheel kW and a stock RB30ET makes 150kW and you dont have to do anything but turn the boost up a bit to make the same power as an RB25.
njpraw you said you sold an RB30DET for $1500 are you sure it was a double over head cam RB30????
I would love to line up against a stock RB25 to see if the worked RB30 could win

New to form

I do not run a turbo but I have the RB25 head on the 3lt block. Output is 110kw @ the wheels with 370Nm tourqe. "Everyone forgets about tourqe". The RB30ET I think has about 200Nm. Thanks for coming. They say that 150kw @ the flywheel is 100kw at the wheels. Take away 1/3 basically. I have had the chance to go up against a VL turbo, I have no idea if he was stock or modified. But in comparison I have one comment - "Go twincam all the way". twisted

295Nm at the flywheel

and youve already answered your question in kW by saying 150 @ the flywheel and approx 100 @ the wheels (every car is different)

well, what i mean by every car being different is that, sure, they came with 150kW @ the flywheel, but, the manual would say have 100kW @ the wheels and the auto 95 kW@ the wheels. what im trying to say is that the drivetrain loss between each car isnt going to be the same due to many factors with one being transmission selection, another one being age, compression etc.

thats why when people ask "oh, whats blah blah kW @ the flywheel worth at the treads", you cant give a definite answer due to the factors and such a statement is only an estimation

thats what i meant.....im sure you knew that already dude but just wanted to clear it up hehe

id look at it this way. u can pick up an sl turbo 4 about 5-6 grand. u could swap the bits over u really like to the turbo and sell the na. Considering u get about 4 grand 4 the na. U could do some serious mods the the new car. Or keep the 6 grand. Sell the na. Thats 10-11 thousand. There are plenty worked calais turbos going around with all the work already done 4 about that. i think it would be really hard to sell a vl 4 more that $11000 despite thousands in recipts. Most vls dont take much to look good anyway. I live in adelaide and ive come across 4-5 vl turbos auto and manual in good condition mechanicaly good 4 around the 5-6 mark. even one for 4800. and it was mechanically ok. Just had too many kms and was boosted and the guy hadnt even bothered to wash it.

Well I suppose you could do it that way but some people ie. myself like to start from scratch and work up from there. As you could probably understand.

The engine conversion on my VL was done in Adelaide. My sis also lives there so I know Adelaide a little bit. I am from Canberra.
