isn't the power to weight ratio calculated at the flywheel and not the wheels?

I believe although my generation (21+yo) has excaped this by a few years i reckon its a great law and it came at a good time.. Theres too many si****s out there on the roads these days that ive seen with my own eyes so theres no excuse, and its ruined it for a lot of others.. I had a wakeup call 2 years ago when i rode off my beautifully running, perfect condition vs clubsport that i poured $ after $ on and although noone was hurt and the car was totalled its sad to say that most of the time p platers who think they are bulletproof even for a minute need a wakeup call like that, I didnt give 2 sh!ts about the car at the time and believe me it can end up tragic and for what?? A bit of metal on wheels? Nothing is more valuable than a human life, especially not a car..

To make it clear by reading the above you will find that:
1. From July 2007 the new law on restricted cars (ie no turbos, superchargers etc) comes in
2. Frtom July 2007 the new 120 hours for L platers comes in
3. From July 2008 The new 2 stage P Plate licencing system comes in
ON NUMBER 2. I have my l's now so im clear of that but get my p's in September so after july does that mean i need to start using the log book? Or is it for ppl that get their l's after that date.?

awsome thread! nice work
these laws are poo
i only JUST got my licence in time.
called up to make an apointment 2 weeks ago and most places were booked out til late july but called back like 5 times and somone canceled on my last call! got my licence the next day after having only one lesson just before my test haha
w00
feel bad for all the L platers but thems the breaks!

and raczy you dont need the log book-
'Learners who are under 21 years of age when applying for a probationary licence will need to have a minimum learner period of 12 months and a minimum of 120 hours of supervised learner driving experience. If the learner permit is issued before 1 July 2007 this requirement will not apply.'

i got my p's in jan of this year.. so basically i have to drive a vlt thats under 125kw per tonne.. is that alot? because i was looking to get a calais vlt in a few months.. so lets say i get one with rb30et engine, rebuilt turbo, 3" exhaust, pwr trans cooler, hybrid front mount intercooler, etc etc.. does that sound like it would be more then the 125kw per tonne?

thanks

xtc_jet - You can drive anything on your L's because technically the fully licenced driver next to you is in control of the car!

anyone know about my situation?

heres the law: a high powered vehicle is considered to be any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne, or with an engine capacity to weight ratio over 3.5 litres per tonne

this might help, i dont no how many of u guys get the maroondah journal but i was reading through it today n saw this:

shi/t cause it effects me right afta i brought my vl turbo... ill try get an exemption lol say i need it for work to tow a trailer or sum bull**** lol.

(if it didnt work) the newspaper says " starting this month, new p-platers cannot drive cars with 8 or more cylinders, with turbocharged or modified engines, and cirtain high performance 6 cylinder cars.
"getting young ones out of V8s and away from turbo engines means the legislation really has some teeth to it now," senior constable Salmon said.
" there are big fines and demerit points involved. We think it will make a big difference."
For more info, go to www.arivealive.vic.gov.au"
**** cause it effects me right afta i brought my vl turbo.... ill try get an exemption lol say i need it for work to tow a trailer or sum **** lol.

These laws have been advertised for at least 6 months if not a year so by what ur saying im guessing you just handt heard about them until recently!

LANCE - cops dont carry a dyno around in their back pocket so you just go by the stock power of the vlt!
