alright boyz..get a load of this

new laws STOLLEN OFF NISSAN SILVIA

a new rule that is comming in in July is that the 100mm ride height rule is being scrapped (as cars are being produced now that sit lower then 100mm standard). His example was the new Focus which sits 95mm at the front bar

The new mesaurement will be taken from the centre of the front wheel up to bottom or a low section of the gaurd.

The new rule will consist of two figures that will be produced my the manufacturer on every single car which will give a high figure and low figure of what they feel the car is safely designed to sit at (so every car will have their own figure, not just a different number for each company)

The measurement that is taken from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the gaurd MUST be within these two numbers given my the manufacturer or the car will be considered unroadworthy, either too low or too high

I just wanted to share my opinion.

The first thing I have a problem with is the passanger restriction on P platers for 1 year. I know the statistics say that the most P plate deaths occur when there's three or more People aged 16-21 in the car, but now it means if you and your friends are going out, that half of you will have to be designated drivers and there will be a lot more P plate drivers on the road. Not everyone is a hoon but who isn't encouraged when theres more than one car involved in the same situation.

The second thing I have a problem with is the restrictions on what cars you can and can't drive, in my opinion the power to weight ratio worked perfectly, it meant that you could drive a 1970's V8 but not a new high powered six. Now they are both out, reducing the numbers of cars available to P platers.

My third problem is slightly hypothetical but i'll use the VL as an example.
N/A RB30 VL top speed 200 km/h.
Turbo RB30 VL top speed 220 km/h.
Say for example they are both exact same spec other than the added turbo (like an SL and an SL turbo), and they are crusing down a highway at 160km/h and they both brake at the same time. Which will stop faster? The Turbo due to its ugraded brakes. My point here is that cars designed to go fast have more built in safety features, where as base models don't. People are still going to drive just as fast, but theres going to be less safety for those who choose to break the law.

My final problem is that its not power that kills, its exactly what the TAC say, It is speed that kills, yes power makes it easier to speed but power isn't the problem, its irresponsible drivers and it just seems like this is a lazy half arsed attempt to reduce the statistics and not solve the actual problem.

Just how I see it.

Cruising at 160kmh is illegal in australia.

Majority of what you mention I agree with.. but chin up, deal with it, thats how it is.

I am well aware that cruising at 160 km/h is illegal in Australia, it was a hypothetical situation for law breakers, that i guarantee will occur. The thing that bugs me isn't just the fact that i won't be able to drive high performance cars when I get my P's it is more so that even I can tell its been poorly thought out.

Its hard to say to people that they can drive X car, but not Y car because the braking statistics vary. Its easy to say No P plater will drive a car with this output.

Moreso, youll benefit from driving a low performance vehicle while learning. I thought the same as you when I was 18... but I am so glad that I only had a slow car... I did enough damage in that and I regard myself as mature especially compared to mates my own age, didnt muck around much etc.

Learn to drive, then earn the right to have a quicker car.

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if P platers can club register a performance car to use for legitimate events? and legally drive it? Seeing as I'd rather not be one of the P platers that gets caught for car modifying I thought I might make something half serious for the track.

the modern cars have far more safety features like airbags/abs etc etc hence meaning you are less likely to crash

was talking to some mates the other day about the power to weight laws and one mate said that they have gone back to the old 125kw per ton law only for those who got there license without goin on the red Ps. i checked the vic roads web site n it says this:

Probationary drivers may apply to drive vehicles with 6 cylinders or less that are:
-turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne;
-turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio between 100kW and 125kW per tonne and that
-are considered to be a family type vehicle (4 seats or more) rather than a sports type vehicle.

A family type vehicle is a sedan, station wagon or hatch normally used to carry families/passengers with 4 or more seats and is equipped with child restraint anchorages and does not include sports cars eg a two door coupe.

Vehicles with eight cylinders or more, family type-type vehicles with more than 125KW per tonne or other vehicles with more than 100KW per tonne will NOT be granted under this scheme.

i know people will say just call vic roads. i have called them about 9 times n each time im on hold for over 30 min. gotten through twice n the lady said well if the site says it then yeah.
