nah mate was going to go monte carlo blue from the 2010 m3 but when at the spray shop and i was looking through colour samples i actually picked out a metallic blue which is used on the new mini and has quite a bit of silver pearl through it to brighten it up. almost gives it a kandy type look. the rest of the car (the whole outside) is in the original vl blue

So you're only getting the engine bay done, not the whole car?

While the motor and gearbox have been taken out ready to put the new engine, gearbox, diff and brakes in i got the bay painted so they wont have to have the drama of taking it all out again once its put in and also cos the new motor setup will have all hidden wiring ddone so those holes all bogged up. What are people's thoughts on order of doing things, am i better to leave the outside unpainted whilst its getting run in so that it prevents mechanics or any unwanted damage being done to paint or get the engine in but not fired up and then spray it so you do the running in km's in a schmick finito car?

Sorry tuxedo after rereading what I wrote and looking like a retard in the process I see how what I wrote came accross that way. After the owner of the shop giving me a rough quote on what whole car will cost to paint I have a heap of saving to do and probably writing letters looking for sponsors! I will post in one of the national threads too but does anyone know a thing about approaching companies for sponsorship, how to go about it, what companies are likely, how it works etc???

Update on build progress. harrow diff centre with true trac and 4.11 gears with billet axles all paid for and off at diff place getting done, engine has had everything test fitted for clearance and all is well, engine has been installed and gear box, just waiting for new pinion on box to then get shifter nd the rest put in, brake booster and master have been done and waiting on rest of brakes to go in, shaun at boostworx who is a legend and so good at his job has said he can get coilovers engineered too so going that route with suspension. going to be a long time coming but cant wait for it to be back on the road

hopefully by next week the diff will be back in the car, ended up going 31 spline billet axles over the 28. the dash cluster from 12 volt is finally starting to take shape with the fibreglass mould that will b shaped to look like a ve hsv cluster but with silver autometer gauges and a shift light in the top centre has had a mock up for approval. To do something new with the interior the plan is to also remove the two centre air con vents in the middle of dash and put a triple gauge binacle like in the new hsvs in its place and to remove the current gauges from under the cd player and use that area to put the billet switches to control everything from cd player, hazard lights, demisters etc

12 volt dash progress

got sent through an update pic of the dash from steff at 12 volt before the gauges get put in, billet switches get made for under the alpine screen, new glove box and changing the lh side of the dash to try and incorporate the theme of a new hsv interior to match the coulsons before getting it trimmed in leather. Hoping it will be back in a month so can take it out to shaun to get it put in.

As for the rest of the car, the coilovers have arrived all the diff has come back assembled, new polished pwr radiator and 16 inch thermo fan on the way and gearbox about to be fitted into the car. Have been talking to Shaun about using a gtx3582r instead of the 35/40 as he estimated it would be good for an extra 50kw atw. Can anyone out there tell me what they think about changing to that turbo keeping in mind its manual with 4.11's and it's being built with drivability in mind so if anyone in the know could give me a quick run through in the differences of how the extra power comes on. is it more peaky or does it spool quicker meaning more power down low in the rev range and still makes more top end power and just generally if the gtx would be a better or worse option whilst paired to a 6 speed and 4:11 gears?
Cheers

Although the dash isn't too my taste exactly in a VLT - I praise your vision and innovation. Will be waiting on more to come for an exciting build.

It's getting trimmed in dark grey leather with a maroon red stitching to work in with the colour on the calipers or a blue like the exterior. Now just deciding what to do about the glovebox..

Hard to say as I have no idea how long the engineering side of things takes to get all the certificates for road worthiness on all the mods. Going by the progress in the last month though I would be somewhat hopeful that it could at least be started in 3-4 months but wouldn't hold my breath. What do people recommend in the way of throttle bodies? Is it still the xf ones or I have read somewhere people talking about billet ones? Still got a heap more parts to buy though which will take me a bit to save up for.
