RB/D/26/34/28 Alphabet Soup Race Car

Building this thing from a rolling shell into a dedicated drag car build. I was driven to my wedding in this thing and now it's time to go all-out.

- 3.4L Spool stroker kit with drag I-beams
- TH400 3-speed auto
- Mickey Thompson ET Pro Radial tyres (275/60/15)
- Goal is 7.xx seconds @ 175-ish.

Precision Gen-2 8891 and 66mm gate

Using a Nissan RD28 diesel block

6boost manifold being made

Block has been completely filled

Exhaust manifold complete

Head back from CNC. They roughed most of the hard stuff out. Now getting measured, hand-finished, all the usual stuff. Valves, seats and whatnot are all there too now and the cams should have arrived in the shop today. Tyres arrived at my place too.

This is what it'll run on

---------- Post added 06-02-15 at 16:17 ----------

This is my engine builder letting me know that the camshafts arrived

And that the caps and girdle arrived too

Filled block

New intake from Plazmaman arrived. Will run 12 x 200b injectors

Progress on engine assembly. Got the block back from Jack Bros after a line bore and hone and being tapped for 12mm head studs as well as being fitted for the steel caps

Crank needs a couple of thou' off everywhere and a few off the thrust. Was too tight everywhere but very consistent (maximum .001 either way of the middle.)

Turbosmart FPR-3000 showed up too

CA625 head studs to suit RB26 are here and crankshaft came back from being sized. Just need pistons now and it's game on

Custom CP pistons arrived. Block bored and honed and trial assembly begun to clearance block for extra stroke

Needed to clearance the block slightly for the extra stroke. Not too much though

More cool Spool stuff for this thing

Two Turbosmart BOVs arrived this afternoon. Love this stuff. So well made

Block is now being o-ringed

Woah this is insane
Running an rb26 head? The Rd blocks are used for their high boost capabilities is this correct?

Waiting for the cylinder head to be plugged up and assembled and the sump to come back from anodising and then I can button it up. Anyone got a set of 26 cam covers?

So it turns out that the particular model RD28 block I bought was electronically controlled and had a crank trigger. The trigger wheel is a three-post deal that will be replaced but the sensor is mounted in a really neat position in the factory oil pump cover. Going to try and utilise this with a custom 12T wheel like the RB guys use. From photos it should be possible but I've got a couple of wheels/gears coming to me to try. Will be ace and OE looking if it works.

Bottom end is together save for the sump which is still being anodised.

Also put some bits together in the shed to make putting it in easier.
