starting the bodywork this weekend looking forward to it. Bonnet and gaurds will get paint stripped because they are rooted. doors are ready to be pulled off as we speak. overall car isnt really that bad as far as dents are concerned both front doors are the worst needing some good hammer n dolly work and a good metal filing will post up pics as i make progress

Car is about all primed up now just have to repair thhe roof. had a change of plans decided to bare metal the whole car so now its turned into a bare metal respray lol found rust on the drivers quarter wheel arch so thats been cut out and replaced with new metal and the usual around the back window had a few pinholes so bit of rust converter then Oxy welded all the holes up. pulled out the front screen n NO rust! so was happy about that roof should be done in a week or 2 when i can find the time.

Just an update on the car i ended up putting brand new gaurds on put in some clean as series 200 trim. I also stonegaurded under all wheel arches to tidy it up a bit more and smoothed every seam on the car and the car is now fully painted in Absynth Yellow and a custom mix silver on the bars and moulds all i need to do is put the front bar on n its nearly there

this was the start of the build as i started to tear it down and get ready to do the bodywork and get it ready for primer

bare Metalled everything heres some pics of Bonnet and roof all in Bare metal. Both needed a few repairs before priming but the roof was a bit wobbly so it was definately the biggest pain in the ass to repair on the whole car lol

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 13:58 ----------

had a tiny bit of rust in the boot channel so out came the grinder to get rid of that asap heres a pic of it cut out and then replaced aswell

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:01 ----------

at this point i had just about finished doing all my repairs so it was time to protect all that bare metal with Primer.

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:04 ----------

heres some pics of everything primed up at this stage i was literally finishing work and then going straight into the shed and working on the VL until 12-1 in the morning

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:07 ----------

the roof being in fairly bad shape i decided i would bare metal it and throw on some polyester primer first basically a spray bog with a thick build just to fill all the little wobbles in it and tiny dents. i then fixed a few bigger dents in the roof and it was ready for primer aswell heres some pics

trial fitting the brand new gaurds i got for her. i just decided i wanted to have a real good crack at doing this car right the first time and it just made sence to put new gaurds on rather than repair the old ones as they were far from straight and the amount of time that would be spent on them just didnt seem to be worth it in my eyes so they got the flick

at this point in the build everything was in primer so the next step was that the doors needed to come off!

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:23 ----------

i then rubbed down all the door jambs and sills and had them ready for primer and paint. the project was kicking along real nice at this stage with some big hours being spent and a few tins were consumed along the way with everyone i had helpin out lol after spending all this time on the car i had it ready to rub down and paint but i needed a break so i let it sit for a few months in this time i was too busy doing other peoples cars to get a chan

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:24 ----------

chance to look at mine but once i had done them it was time for paint

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:42 ----------

masked up and all clean ready for its new paint to go on...

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:44 ----------

the new Paint thrown down and this was all the motivation i needed to really get stuck into it again

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:46 ----------

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 14:48 ----------

i then started to get the rest of the body ready for paint these were exciting times...

i think it was around this time i decided to blacken under the rear quarters and under the front gaurds on the k-frame i wasnt too concerned about all the suspension gear as its all gunna come out anyway so i just worked around it the best i could lol while i did this i also took the time to do all the inside of the cabin while the interior was out just to tidy it up and kill a bit of noise aswell i was very happy how it came up to say the least.

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:00 ----------

now that the body was painted i just had all the body panels to do this took longer than expected when i made the decision to smooth all the joins on the back of the doors , bootlid , bonnet and in the boot channel but a few eager mates and some cans on the go we had it ready in a few weeks to start painting the panels

i started by painting the back of the boot and bonnet heres some pics with colour on and also some showing how my smoothed seams came up

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:06 ----------

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:42 ----------

once the underside of the panels were painted n dry it was time to flip em over and get some paint on the outside

[/IMG]

once they were painted i let them really harden up for a few days before i tried puttin them on, soon enough they went onto the freshly painted body and at this point it was starting to look like a car again

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:43 ----------

few more shots thru the build..

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:45 ----------

with the bootlid and bonnet done it was only 4 doors the gaurds and nosecone away from the body being completed so with full steam ahead i painted the inside of the drivers doors.

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:47 ----------

with this done i could now prepare the gaurds for paint being new they only needed a good sand to have them ready i then used Glasurit wet on wet primer and paionted the gaurds.

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:50 ----------

now with the gaurds done i was a step closer. i then prepared the nose cone , drivers doors and quarter window covers for paint and painted them.

i think this was about the time i was on the hunt for a clean trim to complement the now clean fresh paint the car had and as luck would have it a mate was off loading a clean as hell series 200 complete trim so i didnt hesitate to snap it up for the build. i wasnt keen to have this interior sittin around in the shed so it was just adding to the motivation to finish the car. so i didnt have freshly painted panels lying around i thought i may aswell put them back on the car.

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 15:55 ----------

a few more pics after putting the panels back on..

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:03 ----------

it was now time to paint the other doors and get it done..

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:09 ----------

obviously i then put the passenger doors back on. so with just the bumpers and moulds left to do i was at a point where i wanted a break from painting so i then turned my attention to the interior. ive never been a big fan of the brown dash's so this had to be changed i went and got some vinyl dye and painted that a light Tan called cuppachino. once the dash was done i also did the console in and out and put in the calais sunglasses holder aswell. i put the series 200 glovebox in because i like the badge aswell and its a bit different to see.

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:10 ----------

interior shots here the dash was all cleaned with prepsol wiped down and masked up n then the finished product..

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:12 ----------

the steering wheel will go once i get it registered its just on there for that reason otherwise i'd turf it lol anyway next step putting the seats in....

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:14 ----------

a mate ended up buying plates for his VL but then was undecided so i claimed them lol im not sure whether i will use these tho as i think i dont want to be as ****y until the motor has a few more upgrades lol

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:15 ----------

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:19 ----------

after the trim was done i then turned to doing all my black trims on the car in 2 pack black just to make them look nice and shiney. Also decided to paint the garnish black i left the badge on because this ones a bit banged up and im going to be gettin another one that doesnt have broken tabs then ill remove the badge and paint it.

ok so next up was the bumpers and moulds i bought a brand new front bar with moulds but i repaired and primed up the rear and all the moulds. i decided i wanted to go with a bright silver over MX grey as im not a fan of the mx as much and after all this car isnt genuine and its just not the look i wanted

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:30 ----------

then came time to put the moulds on and rear bar...

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:33 ----------

Also revamped the nose cone badge as i couldnt find a new one anywhere it came up pretty good i reckon i did in 2 pack C.O.B metallic black and silver

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:34 ----------

another shot of the car

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:36 ----------

new windscreens fitted with new rubbers its really startin to get there now...

[IMG][/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:38 ----------

few more pics put venetians in aswell

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:42 ----------

This is pretty much where im at now all i have to do is put the front Bumper on but im in the middle of putting my shed up so its gunna have to wait for now. Also put new clutch and brake rubbers on aswell as door rubbers from rare spares which are pain in the ass to put back on lol.

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:46 ----------

also thought id throw some pics up of my daily aswell..

[/IMG]

---------- Post added 05-02-12 at 16:48 ----------

so thats the build so far with plenty more to come. Diff will be coming out for a new diff that will be painted before goin in aswell as bigger brakes and also the motor has to come out so i can smooth the bay and do some more engine work aswell any updates ill keep you all posted for now hope this is a good read
