$1000 bunkeee

Well it first started as a project search, for a vehicle that i could use for drags ,burnout comp and club days, so just an all round thrash car ,

Had to be an V8.

Found a vlt sl for $1000 in my search for this holden v8 that i was looking for, on an interent site for $1500 lic needing work. Quickly rang the number got the address drove 250km for a look .

The first thing i looked at was the body ,which looked like its been driven through a farmers fence a few minor scratches, broken windscreen ,rust wise there was a couple of patches at the bottom of the windscreen so not too bad ,as the screen had to be replaced .

Asked the bloke if it ran he got the keys and the battery was dead, so i got the jumper pack out , What a rattle it had checked the oil/water on the dipstick , Yep broken head. Offered the guy $1000 as he was in the process of selling all his stuff to go work on a farm.so he said yes.

So left him a deposit and told him ill be back in a couple of days with the rest of the money and a trailer.

In the mean time organised a beater and painter for a quick cheap job.So i didnt even have to take it home .

6 weeks later the car was finished ,so paid them and it went home .In that 6 week period i had google vlt and stumbled across this site and was pretty impressed with the parts that people can buy and the videos of vlts on youtube made me think that this is a keeper.

I only got the front end done as i want to use and abuse it without worrying about paint and body work.

I started looking for engine parts on ebay, gumtree and the web, some bloke had acl race series forged pistons , a jpc manifold ,head ,crank bearings advertised, so i picked up the pistons with a machined block and the recond head which has a port job ,the plenium .Kinda felt sorry for the bloke had to sell it as he had a kid.

The next part was getting the engine built,

Talked to a mate of mine James from bottlefed preformance an he said he will build it for me ,so he checked all the machine work ,wasnt too happy with the crank so had to send it out to get checked and rebalanced ,while i organised some forged H beam rods for it ,and a nitto oil pump.

He had the parts back for a couple of days when i got a phone call ,what fuel do you want me to set the ring gaps to pump or alcohol ,had a little dicussion with him and decided it will run on alcohol all of the time ,so that was sorted.

More to come

What a mission, put powerglide in today ,had to do a fair bit of panel work to my tunnel to make it take it.3800 stall transbrake, just need a yoke and to get the tail shaft redone.

Hey mate its good to see someone give a car like that a fresh start

One thing though, if you are fitting a 2 speed with a B&M shifter or something you could have bought a shifter box off Red Star Fab off here (or made one) so the shifter sits under the factory console, looks neat as compared to cutting a massive hole!
