timing

hey all, i know the issue of ignition timing has been covered before, but just a quick question. i checked the timing for the first time on my new car today, and found it to be on 25+ btdc (on the second last mark). now the thing is, the bolt that loosens the dizzy is almost on the end of the groove, towards the bottom. but shouldnt it be towards the top of the groove if you turn the dizzy clockwise to advance?? i put it onto the 15 degree mark anyway, and it seems to be running slightly rougher on idle. what is the problem you reckon?? cheers

Sounds like the dizzy might be a tooth out.

so if the belt is out a tooth, what would the timing really be if it shows 15 degrees on the crank pulley?

15 degrees, just the cam is opening/closing earlier/later depending on which way its out.

is the engine warm or cold, cos it will be far right when warming, then slowly go left to correct timing

yeh thats what i was thinking, since 15 degrees is standard, the bolt should be in the middle, but my problem is that its set at 15 degrees on the pulley, but the bolt on the dizzy is near the end of the groove
