Really need help here guy's.

Hey all,
please bare with me, It is a long winded story.

A while back ,the car wouldn't start, so i replaced coil, complete distributor and leads recently. The car was then running, but i missed a tooth when aligning the distributor.Came home from work this arvo and Re aligned it,the car then ran and throttled fine. Thought i had it sorted, so i let the car idle for 10 minutes.

Climbed in, began to drive around the block, 160m or so into the drive, i accelerated to around 4000rpm in second gear and the motor backfired, the oil pressure light and battery light came on the dash, so i switched the car off and rolled to a halt. The car would crank, but not fire.

I then pushed the car back home (What a ****fight that was being a smoker).

I checked and confirmed that i have spark into the cylinders, and i have fuel pressure from the inline pump.

So at this point the car won't start
-I have spark
-I have fuel pressure

I then switched AMM's with a spare thinking that the car would start, it doesn't.

When cranking, the exhaust is backfiring, so there appears to be an element of the combustion process going on there, but FARK!.

I read in a thread the other night on CT.com that a member had issue's once the car was warmed up?

Please if anyone can shed some light on the situation, that would be fantastic.

Jacob.

Was about to make a new thread but I have this problem right now too haha. I too have spark on all plugs (not cas or leads), removed fuel hose near line and pressure there (no prob with fuel pumps or filter) and also hear popping from the exhaust. Throttle body is clean and afm working. WHAT ELSE DOES A CAR NEED TO RUN BESIDES FUEL, AIR and IGNITION FFS!!! Some sort of timing but how the hell would it change timing mid run?

I had this problem a long time ago.

Screw had fallen out of the rotor button, so it was spinning but not in time. Hence why the motor had spark, but was backfiring when trying to start.

Check timing with a timing gun.

Engines need 5 things to run. FACTS.

Fuel
Air
Compression
Timing
Spark

It sounds very much like timing related issue, seeing as you have both played with the timing. Pull it down and see where you forgot something.

As El Capitan Insano says work you way through the FACTS of an engine and you will find your problemo.

i done a engine change over n had the same issue, just backfiring n crap n had spark, fuel n good air flow sensor. after stuffin with wiring and s**t for a day i pulled the front timing cover off n the timing belt must have skipped a tooth so i made sure 1st cylinder on top dead centre with the inlet valve open, put a new timing belt on it, then realised the rotor was on plug number 5 when it shuld have been on number 1. done that then it started first turn and i only had to adjust the dizzy 2mm when i put the timin light on it. hope that can help guys it worked for me. cheers

lol i have the exact same problem..

i changed my crank angle and rotor button... still does it...

when the car is cold i can kill it and its all good.. as soon as it gets hot if i come on boost bang backfire...

im assuming its just timing.. im just leaving it till i swap ecus next week and get a new tune and adjust timing then by my mechanics

---------- Post added 21-10-10 at 16:31 ----------

Check your rotor button and distributor gear. They're notorious for the screws loosening and rotor buttons spinning.
