Boost gauge - how to?

Just wondering on how hard (or easy) it is to install a boost gauge as I want to put one in my new car for the inevitable boosting upgrade...

All you need to do is find a vacuum/boost source on the intake manifold to tap into, run the vacuum hose through the firewall into the cabin, attach the boost gauge to the interior somewhere, hook up some power to it for the night illumination and you're set.

Cool, thanx guys.

Anyone know of any pics of this for visual reference, doing the in cabin bit is no drama, its just the hooking of the vacuum hose to the right bit that i want to know..,..

NA plenum? mine is connected to the NA plenum where cruise control would usually attach. it is on the cabin side of the plenum at the top. i had a bung due to lack of cruise control.

Yer at the back of the plenum near the fire wall, there is connections, 1 is bunged up and the other runs to ur vaccum ball at the front of the car. Take the bung off, insert connection and run to gauge. If ur standing in front of the car, it's to the right of the brake booster, on the plenum.

Here's a pic of where I mounted mine, From where I sit it gives me a perfect view of the face and looks good in that spot as well.

...Also there is a grommet pretty much directly from where the T-piece is in the pic david85dc posted so the boost/vac line can go straight into the cabin instead of being twisted like that or having to make any new holes.

That last one. Where you do see the tubing coming out of it. My Blow-Off Valve is hooked up to it... wierd...

That's bloody useless to have a blow-off after the throttle butterfly, it's supposed to stop the turbo back-spinning when the throttle is snapped shut all of the sudden and the charged air goes back along the plenum/builds up too much

I think mine is too? that tube running at the top right hand side of the pic goes to the BOV, was like that when I bought the car, but it has to be connected to a vac line somewhere doesn't it?

...OR maybe I'm just seeing things and maybe it isn't but there is definitely a tube coming from the top of the BOV that runs to that side of the engine. Where is it supposed to go? I'm not down with the whole blow-off valve thing it was there when I bought the car. :S

Just resurrecting this thread as I have finally taken delivery of my new boost gauge (after some dealings with a rather *ahem* less than communicative seller - 5 weeks from payment to delivery!!).

Anyways, I got all the bits out of the box and started to dummy fit it all together and it seems I am one bit short. And of course, this is the "optional extra" bit that you don't know about until opening the damn box.

They call it a "vacuum nipple". Its one of the connections used to connect the vacuum tube supplied with the gauge to the rubber vacuum tube coming off the t-piece if putting it on the line as shown in the pictures above.

Firstly, anyone have any idea as to where I may be able to source one of these "nipples" OR is there any other way to hook up the boost gauge using the existing connections supplied (like screwing directly into the plenum as mentioned in the destructions?).

yeh man, i totally ****ed my nipple up, so i just glued the wire to my boost gauge, very dodgy and unproffessional but hey, on idle its reads 20 vac and goes up to 8psi which is what im running so i guess all is good

Hehe, I just got mine working with a bit of backyard dodgyness.

I got the two hoses connected with a small rubber connector that come off a Thomas the Tank Engine set (true story). I was very pleased with myself when it worked!

Just another question. In the pics above, the engine bay shot shows the vacuum tube running to the gauge connected to a vacuum hose via a t-piece. Anyone know what the t-piece above it is for? It has a hose running into the rear of the engine bay. Just curious as I don't have one but I got supplied with a spare t-piece....
