I haven't had any experience with the aftermarket ones at all. We seem to be a little bit spoiled here in SA with the number of old cars around (though there's been a real drop off in the last year or so) and I did manage to pick up two new front centres from Holden last year. Even these are starting to show their age though with a lot of plastic flash that needed cutting out and sanding before painting.

Best bet would be to try and get the best set of original bars and hardware together that you can. It's amazing what you can do with a plastic welder these days and stripping and resurfacing them isn't a problem.

The worst problem I've come across are the trim strips above the bumpers. If any of the spacing tabs are missing on them you're always going to have problems gettiing a nice horizontal line above the bumpers. Plastic welding can come to the rescue again but it's tedious work.

I bought a small plastic welder a while back and it's been brilliant for repairing small bits and pieces, even dash parts. No other solution at the moment really.
Sorry for this temporary thread hijack.
Just wondering what method of plastic welding you use? What is a good way for a beginner to learn how to do it and practice before touching his beloved wagz?

This is the one I bought...
http://www.urethanesupply.com/Airles...00HT-230V-AUS/

When you have as many cars as I do it paid for itself in no time. Great for reinforcing those fragile right rear wagon bumper corners that always split too.

Plenty of how-to vids in YouTube (type in something like Urethane Supply Plastic Welder) so you can see if it's what you're looking for. Comes in handy for bumpers, busted dash plastic brackets and attach points, hub caps and even office chairs. The only thing not in the kit you'll need will be plastic filler possibly and some sanding sticks, files etc.

Awesome, thanks heaps for that - with so many methods available for plastic welding it is confusing to decide. Most appreciated.

Thought i'd post some pics of my Berlina. Non-turbo but it's still mint as. =)
Has plastic stone chip covers on nose-cone and headlights, genuine mudflaps, stock ride-height etc. Totally unmolested and im closing in on 300,000km's!

Plans are to keep it, well, clean and O.G.

Only really want Venetians for it at the moment, and was thinking of red pin striping if my current stripes ever come off but I don't know.

That's what I like to see: an unmolested VL, NA preferably, with the factory options and stock height. Even has the 2" exhaust as well.

Keep up the good work
