HTURBO - hey man! yeah the sound deadening is bomb especially in the doors. the mid bass is amazing compared to what i was getting out of my previous setup. i had to remove two of the baffles in each front door which sucks because i can hear the sound difference they actually made!

adictv - the stock mounts are plastic, and are 6". my speakers are 6.5" and the mdf is 2 x 18mm thick spacers... the plastic would be pushing 5mm thick. to properly modify and firm up the stock gear i would have had to pretty much scrap them to use them as templates for fibreglass setups. mdf is easier and the sound difference isn't that great.

ROKN- i bought mine on ebay with a wiring harness and aerial adaptor for under $100 posted. also its a 2 din unit but one din is filled with a cd / sunglasses pocket.

UPDATES -

rear false floors -

not bad huh?
also the DDC6.5"s arrived and are hooked up with the mb crossovers and tweeters.

btw i am cruising this around springnats weekend and going to put the 15"s on with vz exec hubbies. any other ideas on making it a non target? TBH i don't think i can make it any less of a sleeper without removing the sub and the carload of young males!

there are amplifiers under there.

it allows me to retain the full cargo and seating area and also hide the system so peering eyes don't get excited.

so far no issues at all with heat. in summer i have a/c on the feet and the air flows under the seats and onto the amps. both have safety shutoffs so if they ever do overheat i will know and will be able to have a second think.

but as i said i have been running this flatout since easter with no hassles re heat.

hey mate just curious to know why you chose a wagon to do this? and not a sedan?

i prefer a wagon as a daily for sleeping in / parts hauling / 5 passengers and a huge boot.

i didn't choose the car for an install, i chose the install for the car. the wagon has the downside of no rear shelf for staging and a visible cargo area for security but on the other hand is a much more versatile vehicle and the install shows that it is quite possible to retain full use of the car with a loud system.

the other upside is the fact you are sitting in an area which is not seperated from the cargo space means spl is through the roof.

biggest problem is roof flex CBF pulling the rooflining off to fix it.

i am hoping to make time to enter an spl comp sometime over the xmas period. should be interesting. i can't even begin to crank it to it's potential. too much pain

OK guys,

I've been scouting around and i think the next phase of my audio life is beginning.

I'm looking at upgrading my front stage, new 4ch amp and sealing my dd.

I'm looking at purchasing -

Crescendo Sonata 4ch amplifier 4 x 100wrms @ 4ohm or 2 x 300wrms @ 4ohm bridged
Morel Ovation 6" 120wrms 4 ohm and 500wmax
sealed box DD2512 powered by an old Alpine MRD1000 v12

Currently I'm running -

kicker 4 x 75wrms amplifier
ddc 6.5" woofers with mb quart crossovers and tweeters front stage
mb quart coaxial 6.5" rear doors
ported dd2512 with the MRD

What I want to obtain from my upgrade -

when i went to the ddc woofers up front i gained midbass but lost some sq definately. i'm looking to regain that and the sub is tuned at about -12 to -14 db in normal conditions so i'd like to go sealed, run a bit more power through it but hopefully obtain more punch / crispness. I'm also upgrading the 4channel as one i think i would benefit from higher wrms per channel into my speakers but also because I can pass all of these speakers and amps to my dad as he has been inspired by my last few builds.

the only thing i'm not so sure about with all of the above is if i should retain the ddc woofers and power them in the rear doors or just keep the front stage on a bridged amp? i think this might be a trial and error question answered by my personal taste.

anyway should have a decision made by end of weekend

yeah i ended up getting the crescendo and some morrel 6"s very pleased. the staging and volume improvement is huge with all of the same wiring / positions etc. also the gain is at 0 instead about 1/4 and i'm not getting any distortion at full volume.

I've had to return to cd's as i can hear how compressed my ipod is when i throw on dire straits or other more sq oriented stuff! lmk if you are in the area or on a cruise i'll show it off. barely anyone on here gets good sq gear

That's because a lot of people don't want all the extra weight of good quality sound gear with big heavy magnets ect in there modified cars

I'm probably gonna stick some Focal Polyglass Splits in the front doors and some Polyglass 2 ways in the shelf of the WRX.

Depending on how much time it sees the track.... I might get a Focal 8" underseat sub and decent amp ect.
