yes u can use ur n/a block most do! series 1 u have to drill the water & oil holes in the side of the block, where the series 2 block already has them already done standard.

u bet me to it SLY.747 lol

SLEEPRVLT is selling a turbo block $200 well worth get to rebuilt a motor! have a look

few people here have modded the n/a block with a couple of holes, kept
the high comp pistons and ran 6 to 7 psi without an IC, np.

hey guys in the new street commodores magazine issue 132 there is a small part in it in the questions on page 109 about a VL converted to turbo. if you read this it says that you will need:

a T3 turbo from a RB30ET
VL Turbo exhaust manifold
VL turbo injectors
VL Turbo Intake
Front Pipe
Intercooler
Transmission Cooler

It also says that you do not need to replace the ECU, Intake Manifold, Fuel Reg and Fuel Pump. It says not to run more than 9-10 PSI and you can get everything you need for around $1500.

I hope this helps you guys it helped me a lot and because this info comes from the Street Commodores people im sure it is suitable. I am planning to do this in the future now because I needed to make sure I was doing it right.

Hope this helps you guys out. Cheers

You do need the turbo ecu to run the injectors correctly, you dont need turbo intake manifolds the n/a ones flow better anyway.

One person on here has theres going with little more than...

dump pipe, turbo, turbo lines, exhaust, and cross over pipe.

Not really a good idea though, at least get an intercooler, vlt management + injectors
.

When I gather up the money to sort some of these parts out, I'm going to want to use a decompression plate to be on the safe side, are they easily available in New Zealand, and what is the cost like for them?

yes because the boost controller is causing a restriction on the vacume line....
its just rule of thumb when you put a boost controller on you will gain a couple of psi... if you want to go lower take off your boost contoller.
you can only go as low as the actuator will let you... a boost controller will only allow you to run more boost.

When converting from n/a to turbo how do you run the turbo water return line, where abouts would I have to tap into as it looks like the turbo engines have a t-piece under the plenum. Would the t piece still be available or would i have to make something up myself.

I'm looking to convert my SL to a turbo.. I don't really understand what is needed to be done. Who on this forum would be best to talk to?
And just for a basic turbo how much would I be looking at in price... And how hard is it to do and would it take long? I have two uncles that are qualified mechanics so they could fit install it but I just need to know the basics on it :S sorry Its been asked so many times... I've searched ad not many answer my questions.

Thanks in advance

You should be able to pick up what needs to be done from this thread alone mate.

Get a parts list from this thread and go and talk to your uncles would be your best bet, as they may be the ones helping you do it.

You could pick up a t03 for a couple of hundred dollars, but for the conversion, all parts your looking at anywhere from 800-2000. Depending on how budget you want to do and how lucky you get.

For example you could pick up injectors for 100 dollars and use them, or you may get stung 250 and then spend another 150 getting them cleaned.

But yeah definitely read this thread and right down the parts you need.
