I'm 316. Defo no dents.

Umm, would a Walki with no dents mean that's it's never had a rim big than 16"? Seems plausable?

I've got 407 and dints. I had looked at 5 others before i bought my 1 and all had dints. Bit strange how some do and some don't.

From memory the book said that 500 cars were dented up. It was done for homologation purposes and was nothing to do with what wheels you can fit on a road car. Guess they were the first 500 but numbers could have been issued randomly as was done on the VN Group A. I'm sure that over the years some cars that have been resprayed would have had these smoothed out by owners that didn't know any better.

i dont have the workshop manual infront of me but im sure it mentions in there that cars 001-500 were made to fit wider wheels! it does tell you where to hit with a hammer!!
no one will be coming near mine with a hammer lol
imho they look neater with out them!

i&j, id say 18" will fit, but not 9"or10"wide
id say its more for width than dimension

a photo of my boot from april 06 (#100)

i just got my greasy workshop manual from the garage, this is what it says under the heading "Rear wheelhouse"
The rear wheelhouse area on vehicles 1-500 was modified to permit the possible use of wider aspect ratio tyres (under certain conditions), vechicles 501-750 were not modified in the same manner, as the use of larger tyres was not appropriate on either build.
The modifications to the rear wheelhouse area is evident from within the boot compartment, and should not be mistaken for panel damage.

altho, as above: 81, 100, and 193 dont when they should. 407 does (as it should).
I&J, whats ur build no?
blownhsv and illusiv, got dints?

Probably lazy production! Seems wierd. I'd rather without dints. When i started looking i admit to passing a couple of cars up because of this. I did more research and came across the workshop manuel. Inside my boot is like brand new never had anything in it,no scratches or chips just some dints

Might be a $2000 Hsv option. :->

Could have been requested by customers as well.

Yep, 1st 500 were supposed to for group A Holomogation laws, as for racing they ran wider tyres, and they had to do alot of the same things to the road car as the race car to pass the holomogation.

Most of the cars I've seen sub 500 have them, but a few don't. Most likely lazy production, but could have been unaware owners.

It could have been as Corsa said... There was no consistancy with build # order, and those cars without the dents, might have gone out before HSV were told that they had to do it to the 500.

Who knows?!?!?!

Maybe you should start a dent/dentless column on the walkinshaw.net build number page Craig or someone start a new thread on here about it?would be interesting to see how many they had modified.
