Sure does brighten it up aye. Is it wrinkle red or just normal spray paint?
Good to see you running factory air box, looks quite good like that.

Both of you running the factory Air Box, looks heaps better than a queer pod filter hanging out the side

Yeah I like the air box look for sure in my car, never like seeing pod straight off the throttle body.
In the VLs I used to like it but looking at that pic it looks a lot better, guess I'm getting old huh

Wrinkle red but i did a terrible job of it, few patches of non wrinkle but only on close inspection. yea i wonder if the air box is restricting at all ? but the air is probably colder so thats beneficial because it gets really hot in the engine bay. Think i need an exhaust manifold heat shield and would having a full 3 inch exhaust with less restriction help this ??

theres a small gian to not running the standard air box, but then you are sucking hotter air without it.
Yes a 3" will reduce bay heat and give you alot more grunt, alot more free flowing exhaust gets the hot gases out quicker etc. best mod you can do to turbo motor.
Heat wrap the headers too.

Just about any intake or exhaust mods will give you small power gains - factory cars are designed with economy and comfort in mind, which means intake noise and the like is a no no. Don't expect to feel any change in acceleration however, as these mods will literally only liberate a few kW, but it all adds up. At the end end of the day it all comes down to preference - personally I think VL airboxes look mud, but each to their own!

Hopefully i can suss out getting an air box made at work to suit a pod filter setup. Moving to Blenheim for 8 months at the start of March, not a lot to spend money on down there so should hopefully be able to save up for some goodys. Want to sort the suspension out get a bit less body roll, maybe do some new bushs, new shocks and adjustable strut tops in the front.

Also been making a parcel tray as the old one was falling to pieces and didnt fit my 6x9s to nicely. few progress pics... turned out to be a lot trickier then i thought but looks mint.

No jigsaw? no problem

That's not a bad time for first go. I managed a flat 14 in DOSEIT before she popped that night.
Full exhaust would make a huge difference.

Caldina goes hard. Its got tein adjustables so rides really nice and good adjustment on the damping between hard and soft really noticeable. Has a boost controller wound up to 16psi goes like a cut cat, best part is the VL can still keep up no worries

Well the Vacationer has a blown head gasket and has turned into a steam generator. Going to give putting a new one a go in with a mate hopefully this weekend cant be that hard right ?

Was also thinking about getting a cam off trademe, nothing extreme just a basic turbo cam, something like http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-...-613523779.htm but turbo spec grind.
is this a waste of time or would i notice an improvement ?

You can get one made for close to that price to suit your application.
I dont think you would notice a great deal from that unless you did supporting head work and tune.
Research it before buying an off the self-piece of mind

Whipped the head off today with a mate (caldina guy) Found the source of the problem, a split in the head gasket and a freshly steam cleaned number 5 piston

Bores look alright havn't looked super closely yet. Not gunna bother putting in an expensive gasket as i just need this engine to hold together till november when i move back to auckland and attempt a 30det build, plus theres more to worry about with this engine like its crazy piston slap.

on another note i bought a VT master cylinder and VS booster to put on thought i may as well while the head is out of the way. still undecided on disk brake rear swap but doesnt seem worth it

also do i need to get the head checked? pressure tested? i never over heated but i spose it could still have warped ?

Finished up the new head gasket last week. cleaned up the block and head real nice, put it back together, with the help of numerous people who randomly stopped as they were walking by to see what was going on and lend a hand... and it lives again!

Now started having issues once its warmed up misfiring terribly. possibly the CAS or i was thinking it could be the coil ?
