![]() SLEVH2 ran low 12s with slicks before the new motor and it only had 202rwkw at that stage... soo, yeh a slip would be a bit more convincing :$ and in regards to the 1600 ute comment, 200rwkw in a vl COULD run a high 11 so why downgrade from a VL to THAT :| ciao for now

Yes there is definitley a lot more costs involved in running numbers. Infact even doing the 10 second package on the cheap will cost over 10k by the time you add everything up. Is that what you's are arguing about? I couldn't be stuffed reading all the posts. lol

Guys my statement about 5-6K for an engine is only regarding head work, forgies, all parts balanced, shot peened rod etc etc.
Sure you could probably run a 9 using the na bottom end, however if your going for longevity then a forged motor will run stronger for longer. I've heard of stories regarding rajab using na bottom ends and running nines, but the bottom ends have only lasted 2-3 runs.

just straight mandrel mild steel pipe.. i got mine for $300.. but usually youd be bale to get one for around $500 or less with no mufflers or tips.. mufflers extra and so are the chrome tips.. and sometime your easily bl to find a dump pipe 3inch for under $200 from here so yeah.. can anyone tell me the differences between t04z, t04e, and t04b turbo's?

If i were to do what flawless said above i.e all the performance parts, is there n e use buyin a vlct. im lookin around for em and i cant find one thats stock as a rock, most have already been worked. If you buy a n/a vltc for some 4 grand (which there are plenty of) and just spend an extra 1000 or so for a turbo kit is there n e point buyin a stock vlct for an odd 7-8 grand????

I had Rebuilt RB30 with baby cam, Haltech, 550cc injectors, 910 pump, T4B/T3 Hiflo, Hybrid cooler, 3"exhaust, stageII auto 2800 stall, running rebuilt but stock 3.45 LSD on slicks and went 12.07@115.07mph close but no 11sec cigar, had a bit more in it but only got 3 passes on the day. Thats about ten grands worth with everything right there not including tuning and nick nacks etc....you get the idea.

I think its one thing to make the required power for an 11 second pass, but maintaining it [ie. keeping the engine together is another].
Using second hand parts usually can create horrific problems but if thats the chance you are willing to take and are aware of what the consequences are, then thats fine. Thats not to say that it cannot be done. The comment earlier of why workshops charge so much is mainly because [in most cases anyway] is that all parts used are new and as mentioned, there are ALOT of little bits and pieces that have not been accounted for. Also, being in the industry, they have seen more components fail than you have seen work. You get what you pay for [most of the time]. I have seen an ebay intercooler core end up in the inlet manifold... ![]() I cannot speak on behalf of all shops but i know our quality of work is something we are proud of and is what i would expect if i was a customer. There is a saying that some will agree with... GOOD WORK IS NOT CHEAP & CHEAP WORK IS NOT GOOD... ![]() Just my 2c Cheers

stock ecu tricks?
Hey if you were to upgrade turbo, injectors, fuel pump and exhaust as suggested, is there any mods that can be made to squeeze more out of the stock ecu?

anything else that can trick the ecu into delivering more fuel? ie sensor tricks, I've got it at 15 psi and seems to handle that ok all with stock injectors and fuel pump. only mods I've got is front mount, good exhaust and high flow pod filter.

aftermarket fuel regulator like a malpassi.. but i wouldnt be pushing it past 15psi with std fuel pump and injectors.. as a matter of fact i wouldn't even be running 15psi without a fuel reg unless it got wound up properly on the dyno but thats just me

What about traction? Are mini tubs and a shortened diff something to consider as I know with my stightly modified VLT, I have problems keeping traction when launching. What size rims are best suited?

Taken from another thread:
Gt3540 Turbosmart 48mm Gate Stock Manifold + Spacer Plate Weld Pipe Onto Front Of Stock Inlet Manifold Cooler And Pipes Xf Throttle Body 600cc 14mm Injectors + Fuel Rail Jatco Or Glide With Transbrake Lsd Bleed Valve Bosch 044 Fuel Pump Thx For Coming Dont forget an ecu to run you 14mm injectors. It certainly makes the 10's for 10k challenge easier to acheive. I still wanna see if it can be done. |
