Thanks woggster. I got a mate to respray them in gloss instead of the factory satin/semi gloss and they came out heaps better.

re - best shape Commodore after the VL

I agree that the best shaped Commodores are the VY-VZ's , the VR-VS was a good shape.

I was disappointed in the Commodores after the VL because Holden couldn't find a motor that could come close to matching the QUALITY of the RB30 engine, in the sixes , it wasn't till Holden started building the Alloytec V6 then did they come up with a six that matched that engine, the first of the VN V6's were a disaster as far as oil leaks go, they also had a lot of trouble with Welsh plugs corroding out which meant a lot of them came back under warranty to get repaired.

That's why I hung onto the VL for so long till the LS1 powered VY Commodore became old enough for me to afford to buy (stupid boss couldn't work out why I didn't want anything else) because despite their 1950's concept, the materials and method of manufacture makes them as good as a lot of the Japanese engines, I could've bought a VZ SV6 for the same price (because all the other VZ V6's are automatics, I wanted a manual) but the VY SS cost as much as that one, I steered clear from the VT's because of their problems back when the LS1 was first fitted to a Commodore.

The introduction of the Nissan drivetrain actually cost a lot of people their jobs because the factory which built the Aussie 4 speed manual was closed down, it made me wonder why Holden couldn't build a drivetrain to rival that one, probably because they couldn't at the time, the 3 litre mill was built purposely for the Aussie market I think.

Probably was the problem like the Japanese had before W Edwards-Deming showed them his method of manufacturing things, Ford in America were under a lot of pressure from consumers to start importing a manual transmission because they weren't happy with the Ford unit,so they pulled both that one & the Japanese unit down and compared them both, sure enough, the Ford gearbox had bigger clearances, so they made their unit more like that.

It's a bit like when I spoke about the wear in the RB30 block I have, Nissan have very tight tolerance for their bore out of roundness like 0.00059" (0.015mm) whereas the 202 engine has 0.003" (0.076mm), a far bigger difference.

mine, vz 6.0 thunder, m6.
The usual bolt ons + twin plate clutch for 355rwhp.

Throwing a factory ls2 cam and a set of valve springs in there soon, should be nudging 300rwkw with factory manners and fuel consumption.

Then 4.11s and tru trac

My LS1 VZ Calais. Stock bar a redback twin 2-1/2 cat back. Hopefully soon to be complimented by headers and cats, OTR and tune. See what happens after all that.

Whacked in some HOD headlight globes and LED parkers, looks better than stock halogens.

Very nice Seantor, would have loved one of those. Saw a nice silver one when I was shopping around but it was too far out of my price range. Happy with what I have now though.

Not too bad - come onto boost around 2700rpm from memory, but messy from there up.

It loved smashing the tyres at 100ks. You'll love it!!
